How to Create a Painting from a Photo
Find a really cool picture on the internet? Want to make a photo into something that's handmade? Here's how!
EditSteps
-
1Scale the picture you intend to use to the intended size of the painting you want to create. Print it out!Ad
-
2Get some wax paper, a pencil, and the paper that the painting will be going on to.
-
3Tape the piece of wax paper, shiny side down, on top of the image.
-
4Trace the image, drawing only the basic lines such as between foreground and background or between other areas of high contrast.
-
5Remove the wax paper from the image and flip on to the final paper.
-
6Trace the lines that you drew previously so that they transfer onto the paper, make sure to push hard enough!
-
7Peel off the wax paper leaving some light lines to guide you while you are painting.
-
8Paint away. Refer back to the photograph to fill in the details and match colors.Ad

EditTips
- This can be used for turning a picture into a drawing as well! Just do shading/coloring instead of painting.
EditWarnings
- This method makes the picture a mirror image of the original. If you don't want this, use an image editor to make a mirror image of the original photograph before printing it. Then you will paint a mirror image of a mirror image which is the same as the original.
