How to Choose the Right Moist Snuff for You
So you've seen big league baseball stars with a fat lip in and you've thought about trying it yourself. Before you reach for that can of Cope or Grizz, take a minute to read these guidelines as to choosing the best dip for you.
Steps
-
1Are you a beginner or a regular dipper? Beginners want to start with a low nicotine, fruity flavored dip. Pouches are best until you've mastered putting it in and taking it out. A pouch greatly reduces your chances of swallowing the dip too. If you have more experience, try switching to a higher nicotine dip. Fine cut is also recommended.

2Select your brand. Skoal is lower in nicotine and will give you significantly lower negative side effects (nausea, sweating, rapid heartbeat, etc.). Long time dippers may want to switch to a stronger dip. Grizzly has the highest nicotine content per weight and will allow you to pack smaller lips without sacrificing nicotine delivery but has more of an artificial flavor where Copenhagen has almost as much and has a better taste.
-
3Select your cut. Pouches cut down on the intense tobacco flavor and limit nicotine absorption. Among "loose" snuffs, long cut is easiest to manage and is much easier on the gums compared to fine cut. Fine cut is comparable in grain size and texture to coffee grounds. Its a killer on the gums but delivers much more nicotine.
-
4Choose your flavor. Fruit flavors are better for inexperienced dippers because they are easier on the taste buds and on the stomach. Mint is a good intermediate dip as the flavor is familiar but stronger than fruit flavors. Strait or natural is a weaker flavor but usually is higher in nicotine. Wintergreen is a harsher version of mint and is only for experienced dippers.Ad
