Steps

  1. 1
To see how it's done, visit a show yourself.

  2. 2
Make sure your goat does not have mouth defects or teat faults, and reaches the height limit.
  3. 3
Teach your goat to stand and walk quietly on a lead. Lift it by the front with your hand so its feet are off the ground, then let it down. The feet should be well apart. Now run your hand down it's back until you reach it's hips, press down slightly and rock your hand back and forth. It should move its hind legs also.
  4. 4
Try to open your goat's mouth wide while holding the lead, so judges can inspect the bite.
  5. 5
Get other people to run their hands along its back so it won't be wary around the judges.
  6. 6
Brush your goat's hair two or so weeks before the show every day.
  7. 7
Two days before the show, trim your goat's hooves. It is also a good idea to bathe it. Ask your local vet what shampoo is right for you.
  8. 8
On the day of the show, rub your goat's horns with some hoof oil, though Vaseline works just as well.
  9. 9
Remember when at the show to talk to it and pet it to reassure it, as it may feel scared.
