How to Mourn a Hamster's Death
Pets' deaths are hard to overcome. Sometimes they can't be overcome at all. Hamsters only live an average of 1-3 years, but the time they are here with us can feel as decades. When they slowly go away, it's hard to cope with the pain of losing them. It is OK to cry. This article isn't saying it's not OK to cry. This article should help you with the process of mourning over your gone friend in a fur coat.
Steps
-
1Realize what happened. Don't make a fantasy that your friend is still with you, just realize what happened. It (as sad as it is) passed on without you. It's OK to cry. Know that he had the best life he could by being with you. Don't doubt it.Ad

2If it helps, try to find out why he died. He could die from heat, a chill, other pets, nail polish, hairspray, even eating something he shouldn't have, cleansers such as Windex, so many countless things. It is a great possibility that the hamster you bought was older than you thought. You could even bring your friend's body to a veterinarian and ask them, too.
-
3Did your hamster have a rolly-ball? If so, you can cut small rectangular pieces of paper and write a note on them, put what number it is (like note 1, 2, 3, etc) and fold them in half to stick in your hamsters ball.
-
4Bury them instead of throwing them away, or some flushing like fish. Try putting them in something they loved, such as a toilet paper towel tube or a little play box. With petals, you could wrap her in a paper towel and then place her in tin foil in the shape of a heart.
-
5Make a tombstone and burn their name into it, and burn a heart in the middle.
-
6If you decided to bury him, cut half of a water bottle, fill half with rocks and stick a rose or other flower in it, and set it at his tombstone.
-
7Make a letter to your pet, recalling good and funny moments. Tell them how much they meant to you and tell them about how they died and how much you miss them. Once your done, print it out (if typed) tri-fold it, write his name with a heart on it, then lay it under the flower by the burial site. (If you like, you could write a poem instead.)
-
8Talk about it with a friend, family member, or even another pet. Talk to your fish, dog or cat if you have any. It's nice to have someone to talk to while you are in a predicament.
-
9Get a new hamster. Get one that is completely different than your old one. Once you get a new one, play with it and talk to it like you did your old one. IT WILL NEVER REPLACE YOUR OTHER HAMSTER. Some people are nervous to get one because of this. It does not replace, it helps you to feel better. Make a vow to your old pet that you will let him go, and that you will be a very good hamster owner in the future.Ad

Tips
- Have friends (or family) be there for you, with them around, cry your little heart out. They'll be there for you, if they are your real friends. Then tell them everything. And then cry out your heart again, until you feel if you cant cry anymore, then get ice cream, it freezes the emotions.
- If a funeral is to sad for you then have a Wake (a type of Irish Funeral). Get sodas and glasses and toast all the good things about him/her.
- Don't feel bad to cry.
- Sometimes, it's best to wait on getting a new hamster. If you get one too quickly, you may be upset when it doesn't act or look like your recently departed hamster.
- Have a funeral for him or her; it helps to relieve the pain.
- Sometimes seeing sweet/funny moments makes you feel better.
- If you do get a new hamster, name it after the old one (example, if the dead hamster's name is Daisy, name the new one "Daisy the II"). This could lead to sadness for some people when they hear the old hamsters name.
Warnings
- Don't argue with people over the loss. Some people will tell you that you are overreacting, but don't listen to them, they don't know how close you guys were, or how much s/he meant to you. She/he may have been your only friend. They don't know, so just ignore them, don't even give them the satisfaction of answering. Arguing is a bad thing to do when you are upset, as it just makes you even more upset, and may also make you feel bad or weak about feeling sad.
- Don't force yourself to buy a new hamster. Some people can't deal with the heartache, or they don't want to go through another. If you do, you may end up comparing the two hamsters (your old and new) which may result in you disliking the new pet for awhile, and that is something you do not want to remember after the little furry guy is gone.
- If you cry to much then you can actually hurt your body so try to stop sometime.
