Steps

  1. 1
Convince your parents. If you have your own house, then convince the other people in the house. if you live alone, well, you have a jump start.

  2. 2
Get the topic. read books about taking care of rats. Look at websites. Visit rat breeders. Your rat won't have a good life if you think they eat hay, do you agree?
  3. 3
The visit. Go to a nearby pet store and see if they sell rats. If they do, then look at them. Are the rats lively and alert? if no, the rats may be sick. Check the toys. Look at cages. Before you buy a cage, look at the box it is in. The size of the box is about the size of the cage inside. If you were a rat, would you like living in that cage? if you say yes, buy the cage. If maybe, don't buy it. there's better out there. Same with no.
  4. 4
Buy all the supplies. you should know what to buy by now. If no, repeat step two. Set up the supplies BEFORE you buy the rat.
  5. 5
Buy the rat. Rats like coming in pairs so buy 2 or 3. Make sure you buy all Males (Bucks) or all Females. (Does) If you get a male and female, they could have babies every 3 weeks! ( it's not as cool as it sounds.)
  6. 6
Take the rat for a health check in about a week after you get the rat. You won't regret it.

  • For the convince part, tell the prey (your the predator)that pet rats are not vermin. Also tell them Beatrix Potter owned a pet rat. (he wrote the Peter Rabbit stories)

Warnings
