EditSteps
-
1Realize that your parents do have faith, even if you don't. They're not pretending or doing it to hurt you or make your life difficult. They believe what they preach, and they sincerely want you to follow their faith too. Be tactful about how you approach their beliefs.
-
2Be a good person. Follow your parents' house rules so they won't think they raised you with no morals.
-
3Consider talking it out. This is especially important if you actually want them to interact with you differently or have different expectations of you. For example, if you don't want to attend services with them, you're going to have to explain why. It'll help to be respectful and considerate in talking them out with them, rather than just throwing a tantrum about not wanting to go.
-
4Be honest and truthful with your parents. Don't confront them, but tell them you're not an extremist like they are. They may get upset, but at least they'll know where you stand.

EditTips
- If your extremely strict religious parents want to disown you for not doing everything their way, remember that it's not your fault! You may have to move as far away from them as possible to protect your emotional sanity.
- Don't bash their beliefs.
- If you are rational about things, they might actually consider your beliefs.
EditWarnings
- If they attempt to harm you in any way, reach out for help with the police or other adults in your life.
