How to Be Industrial
Industrial Music is an alternative lifestyle that is often associated with Goth, Metal, or Techno lifestyles. This is both true and false at the same time. The lifestyle is rather unique, however it has elements of other cultures as well. Those who live this life are sometimes referred to as Rivet heads.

1Learn the music, love the music. Industrial is all about the music, EBM,Futurepop,Dark Electro,Noize, Industrial, IDM, and Techno-Metal. Industrial music is also a blend of metal and techno, tending to have a futuristic and/or grim aspect. Some example bands would be Throbbing Gristle (founders of the "industrial" sound and term because of their label, Industrial Records), Monte Cazazza, Laibach, Rammstein, Combichrist, Wumpscut, Angelspit, Neuroticfish, Bodycall,Amduscia,Noisuf-X,Dioxyde, Front242, Ministry, Eisbrecher, Oomph!, KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, etc.

2The style, while not necessary is a part of the lifestyle. An important thing to remember, is that Industrial Style usually involves militaristic looks (more common in the post-industrial movement). Some Industrial styles border on a minimalist goth and fetish look. Go to a local Army Surplus store for clothing, you can find some good stuff there. For the fetish or goth look, check any store that specialize in alternative fashion or order the clothes online. One can also purchase clothes from a thrift shop and modify them to one's desired look.

3Do what you think looks good, don't succumb to posers who say you have to look this way or that way. Industrial is all about independence and non conformity.
-
4Dancing is common at industrial shows, including moshing (aka slam-dancing). At an Industrial rave, there are dozens of forms of dancing, the ever popular and simple "stomp" to complex freestyles. Practice and find a style that suits you!

EditTips
- Don't just listen only to the bands that teenager fans use to listen to. Not all industrial music is danceable, specially the pioneers, so most great bands are not played at the clubs.
- Ease into the subculture, don't look like a poser. All rock subcultures HATE posers.
- If you go to an Industrial concert, strike up some conversations. You may just learn something.
EditWarnings
- Be ready to be made fun of for your crazy style, you will stand out. Get used to it.
- You may lose friends and will make new ones, but the friends that leave you when you change your style...well they weren't very good friends to start, were they?
