    Try to listen to metal bands that no one else listens to, not only famous bands (ex. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer). If you do that, people will most likely label you as a poser. Try listening to extreme genres (black, death, doom). Good bands in each genre are Emperor,Winds of Sorrow, Nile, Sepultura, My Dying Bride, and Candlemass.

    If you're trying to look metal, and you're in middle school, you're probably around the age of 12-14, so that might make it hard for people to believe that you actually listen to the bands that you do, but don't be afraid to wear band shirts. Do not buy them from Hot Topic.

    Shirts that you should wear are black obviously, and band shirts. Make sure that you actually listen to the band and can name albums/songs before you wear it. This will limit your chances of being called a poser. Pants should be denim, and should be dark. Shoes should be converses. You're only in middle school, but when you get older you should get combat boots, no matter your gender.

    When in doubt, and people are calling you a poser, you gotta have some facts to back you up! Make sure you know the background of metal and the different genres and can name different genres of metal bands. Most importantly, listen to metal. If you don't, then you really are a poser.
