How to Be a Tomboy and Date a Tomgirl and Vice Versa
Did you never really have a preference for dolls? Would you prefer to swim in a creek or climb a tree? Do you engage in programs that are typically directed at boys than girls? Do you have your eyes set on someone who likes these kinds of things? Then read further to learn more about how to deal with people who don't quite fit the "norm" that people try and dictate.
Steps
-
1Define. Defining people's likes and dislikes helps you as the potential dater to learn more about your loved one. Knowing if they like everything or just some things and excluding others helps you to work out how to treat this certain someone who's caught your eye.Ad

2Treat this girl or boy to a toy or item that catches their interest. It does not have to cost money. Sometimes the gift of your time and exploring trails together can be the best gift, but along the way, pick flowers, pick up frogs and discuss the things you see, collect strange life like lizards, bugs, and odd shaped leaves.
-
3When life hands you a skinned knee, take the time to point out what the shape of the injury reminds you of. This may seem insensitive to some, but to a Tomboy or girl it represents an opportunity to explore something they had not contemplated. Celebrate everything including the injuries. Make a homemade card and have friends sign it.
-
4Art. Art represents something that tomboys/girls can both do and it allows freedom of expression without concern that someone is good or bad. There's no such thing in art.
- Photography. Have a contest and see who takes better shots.
- Painting. Try and do the same landscape or portrait and see who has the better eye.
- Drawing. Pencils and charcoal are the best at showing off your skills and allowing you to pour out your heart. Try drawing each other. Its a gift that will continue to give.
-
5Keep your mind light and airy and possibly incorporate a picnic for this event. Find a good field of grass or hay and just chase each other around. Play tag. Announce, "You're it." Stuff ice down their shirt or other incentives to get them to chase you down. It can even be a noogie (knuckles to the top of the head and press down slightly into head and wiggle back and forth). Acting like kids keeps the mood light and keeps the interest of the tomboy or girl.
-
6Get out the waterguns. A watergun fight can be the best thing to engage your tomboy/girl in action. Paintball is a bit too bruising to the skin but waterguns are just right, allowing for a sunny day. If snowing, switch it over to a snowball fight.
-
7Tickling. Tickling can be the best way to engage anyone in a little more intimate activity without actually doing anything that can be perceived as wrong. Just keep it above board. Arm pits, feet, necks, 2 inches above the knee are prime targets.
-
8Hold contests. Yelling, Hollering, Whistling, silent the longest, and other games again keeps the interest on what can be fun which is what tomboy/girling is all about.Ad

Tips
- Plan ahead for adventure. Adventures are the mainstay of a tomboy or girl. Biking, Walking, Hiking, Swimming, Rollerblading, Skateboarding, Surfing, treasure cache hunting with GPS, and other adventures are awaiting a forward thinking girl or boyfriend. Don't hesitate to research more adventure possibilities or invent your own.
- Tribal and Urban dancing is less threatening and "girly" than, say, ballet which requires hours of practice and precise movements which are often interpreted for one gender (untrue, but often interpreted that way). Not all forms of dance can be interpreted the same way by everyone, so, again, do not assume. Ask if your loved one would be interested.
- Don't forget that a parent of your loved one is a good resource for what has interested your loved one.
- Don't ever assume an interest for a boy or a girl. Ask questions so that you engage your target.
Warnings
- Never assume. Ask questions.
- Keep a phone with you for emergencies. If in a water sport, double bag the phone in 2 separate zip-lock bags.
- Plan ahead.
