Steps
-
1First step - Find a calm place to begin. Many people use bathrooms. Those with young children will want to wait for the children to fall asleep. You don't need anything else - just the determination to let your body relax.
-
2You should be seated and ready to begin. Inhale through your nose to the count of 5 or 6 seconds. Exhale slowly through your mouth with lips that are loosely pursed (held together) Exhale to the count of 5 or more seconds according to ability. If you get dizzy after the first few breaths, stop. Wait a few minutes and try again. Sometimes our stress is so severe we can hardly breathe. This method should make breathing a lot easier over time.
-
3After two or three deep, deep breaths, continue breathing while you visualize the healing power of your choice of a superior being at the top of your head. If you are Christian, feel Jesus there; if you are Muslim, know that Allah is with you there, if you are Baha'i, Buddhist, Hindu or agnostic, feel the healing power of the Universe at the crown of your head. br>

4Now, as you continue to breathe deeply and exhale slowly, visualize the White Light of healing traveling down your skull and into your neck. Allow the peace of your superior to travel through your back, into your stomach and down into your hips. Feel the relief of stress down through your thighs, and knees. Know that you are being healed as your calves, ankles, and ,now, feet are relieving themselves of all the pain and stress in your body. If your feet are on the floor as you sit there, breathing calmly and even more deeply, let the hurt, pain and stress that was in your body leave directly into the floor. If your feet are elevated, feel all negative emotions leave out from your feet, away from your body.

5Take two huge deep inhales and exhales and now you are awake, relaxed, stress free and in love with the world! If you are a writer or poet, please read on to Step 6. If you have always wanted to be a writer or poet, you can come to Step 6 too. Get a pad of paper and a pen. Here we go!

6You are totally relaxed now so we can go on a guided imagery: My favorite place to visit is New Zealand so we'll go there first. There are two islands in New Zealand and I was once honored to visit the west coast of the lower island. My friend, being native Kiwis, knew a terrific place to visit right on the water.

7As you walk along the fern lined path and hear the calls of birds too innumerable to count, you can feel the spongy moss under your feet. With each step your body relaxes further and the lightness of your spirit seems too perfect to understand. Keep breathing slowly and deeply as you walk along and then you see a light in the distance. The trees had been so luscious and full, the light from the cloudy sky so minimal that you were only guided by the glistening of the leaves from a recent shower. The light calls to you as you slowly amble along until you come to meadow at the end of the forest. On the other side of this meadow comes a roaring of water so you want to see it for yourself and you walk a little faster.

8You come to the waterfall which is glowing with phosphorescence and you marvel at the shining waters. A fallen log nearby proves to be sound and you sit there, with the sounds of the birds, the waters and rustling of leaves. Now you can write whatever comes to your relaxed mind.
