Ingredients
- 250 grams of prawns (neatly cleaned without its legs and head, also de-veined)
- 50 grams of onion
- 2-3 tablespoons of oil
- 2 tablespoons of freshly grounded ginger and garlic paste
- 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
- Chile powder to taste (though it's preferred to be spicy, it's up to your taste buds)
- Salt to taste
- 1 lemon
- Coriander leaves to garnish
- 1 cup water (if required)
Steps
-
1Put a heavy-bottomed vessel on gas, and add oil. When the oil becomes heated, add neatly cleaned and washed prawns in it, without adding any water, and let it cook in low flame (since the prawns already hold lots of water, it gets cooked, with the water it releases during cooking. so no need to add water).
-
2Add turmeric to it.
-
3As the prawns start to cook, add onions, ginger, garlic paste, salt, and chilly powder.
-
4Now, as the gravy leaves the side of the dish, add lemon and turn off the gas.
-
5Serve hot and garnish with coriander leaves.

Tips
- Make sure the prawns are de-veined, and no legs, head, or sharp things are left.
- Wash it in running water and don't squeeze it.
- Be careful enough to just give small and slow movement as to stir the dish without using a spoon.
- Turmeric is added with the prawns itself, so as to take-out the fleshy smell it contains and for nice color.
- Mostly the prawns are cooked with the water it contains, but if you think the prawns are uncooked, you can use the 1 cup of water if required.
Warnings
- Don't burn yourself while giving slow and small movement to the vessel.
