Essential oils are the latest 'next big thing' that has been around a long time. They have a LOT of uses. You need to know something about them, though, to use them safely.

- Organic or cold pressed oils
- Distilled water
- Your essential oils of choice
EditSteps
-
1Do some research. There are a lot of uses for them, but some aren't meant to be taken internally, some shouldn't be used on your pets, etc. You really need to know what your oil that you are using is good for.Ad
-
2Research your carrier that you are going to use. There are a few that you can actually put directly on the skin, and don't actually need a carrier, but others have to have something mixed with them to use topically.
-
3Take into consideration the end purpose of the concoction you are making.
-
4Get the best of your carrier liquid as you can. Distilled water, not tap water; Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), Almond oil, Coconut oil, Avocado oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, etc.
-
5Use no more than 3 - 5 % of oil to carrier. For example:
- One teaspoon (5cc) of carrier liquid to 3 drops of oil would be about a 3% solution. Use that formula as a basic rule of thumb.
-
6If using as something like a massage oil that will have large scale skin contact, reduce it to 1 drop per teaspoon of oil. (1% solution)Ad
