How to Get Started Writing and Fulfilling Goals
Are you one of the many that sets goals, only to let them slip by unattained? Well, this guide will help you start writing goals that start small and then can develop into larger ones.
EditSteps
-
1Get some paper and a pen or pencil. Think about your coming week. What's happening? What would you like to get accomplished? Some examples might be:
- Study for Physics test on Friday
- Finish reading 'Pride and Prejudice
- Memorize lines for play
- Drink more water daily

2Don't make your goals too big! Don't say, "Reverse global warming and solve littering problems." That is a long term goal, and you should just start with smaller, more easily attained goals before starting monstrous ones. Big goals will get you overwhelmed.
-
3Over the next week, check your list a few times a day. In your free time, read Pride and Prejudice instead of sitting on the couch watching TV. Study for your physics test instead of wasting time playing violent video games! It will take self control, but self control is necessary to a productive and successful life. Remember, will playing that video game help you in whatever you are doing next year? Chances are, probably not!
-
4At the end of your week, look over your goals. What ones have you accomplished? Cross out the ones you accomplished, and add the ones you left undone to next weeks list.
-
5Yep, that's right, you make another list for the next week. Now that you know what you can accomplish, set your goals again, but put them a little above what you think you can realistically accomplish. Remember, if you only set a low goal, you will probably reach it. However, if you set a high goal, and try hard to get it, then even if you don't attain it, you will still be higher than if you reached the low goal.
-
6Once you are on to a good system of making weekly lists, make a monthly list with bigger goals. Then you can move onto semi-annual goals, then yearly goals, then finally, the life-time long term goals!Ad

EditTips
- Try to attain every single goal. You have no idea an honestly attained list full of crossed out goals looks. It's a great feeling, especially if it's a yearly list.
- Review your goal often. Often meaning like every day.
- If you stop during the first week, you set a dangerous precedent for yourself. Then you will tell yourself that it's ok to skip a few goals, because you did before. You can't tell your self this!
- Set little rewards for yourself
EditWarnings
- Don't become desperate. If you made a goal to make a thousand dollars in a month, don't rob a bank because you need an extra few hundred to reach the goal. If there really was no way to reach your goals no matter how hard you worked, then let it go, and try again later.
