How to Communicate Effectively With a High School Teacher
Edited by Catie, Tabia, Teresa
Most people think that communicating with a professor, especially a high school teacher, is hard. But the truth is that there are some ways to approach them, being a student.
EditSteps
-
1Understand the teachers. First, understand that teachers, specially those who work in big, crowded schools, are usually stressed out because of all the number of kids they have to tell to be quiet and the massive number of work they have to grade, etc. Your main task is understanding that being a teacher is not an easy job.Ad

2Seek the best time. You don't want to talk to your teacher personally or privately when he or she is in middle of a session, class, or personal time. Teachers are humans like students are, and they need the sufficient time to do whatever they need to do. Check your teacher's schedule if he or she has the time to talk with you or ask him/her to make an specific appointment with you.
-
3Be clear and straight to the point. Don't mumble or be indecisive on you are going to tell them. Most teachers like their students to be as honest and sincere they can be. Be sure to make a point and explain well what you need to say, otherwise your teachers may lack of time or interest to keep on listening to you. Remember, teachers are people too.
-
4Show your teachers how much you appreciate them. Everyone likes to be appreciated. Teachers work hard to get information in the heads of the students and they not always get a reward for that. Even though you are talking to a teacher whom you hate, you should at least be polite and tell them a small compliment like "I liked the Napoleon explanation you gave us in class today" or something to recompense them for the hard work.Ad
EditTips
- Act serious and maturely. Teachers don't like jokers. (This is probably why there are so many people in detention!)
- Wear a nice smile. A smile works for everyone.
- Flatter them, make them feel that you appreciate the hard work that they give to you.
EditWarnings
- Many students tend to hate teachers because of the number of work that they unwillingly receive from the teachers. Remember you are trying to talk with them, not to blame them of all 'evil' things they do to students to make students' lives more miserable.
