Did you know that your computer or phone sitting in front of you shares quite a few similarities with your body? Humans have built many great things but none come as close to the brain as a computer can. How similar really is your body to a computer?

EditSteps

  1. 1
The CPU. The brain of the PC.The brain and the CPU share quite an astonishing similarity. Obviously the brain is more powerful but they work in much the same way. They both see a command, decode it into a language it understands and then sends a new signal to act upon the command it received. In computing this is known as the Fetch execute cycle. Your brain does the same. For example, if you see something rapidly approaching you your brain will take the idea that something is rapidly heading towards you, decode it so it can process the thought and then decide the best course of action (Whether that be to duck or to charge towards your friend in what will be decided moments later as a bad idea.)
  2. 2
The motherboard may not have a long fancy name like the rest of the PC but it does provide a very valuable service. It keeps everything where it should be and keeps it all connected. It holds the most important parts of the PC such as the CPU. It takes the signal that the CPU gives it and sends it down whatever track it needs to go down. If it needs to go to the R.A.M then the motherboard will carry the signal all the way from the CPU to the RAM much in the same way that if you needed to move your leg, your brain would send the command for the correct muscles to contract and loosen down the spinal cord.
  3. 3
The PSU (Power supply unit). The stomach of the PC. The power supply unit works a lot like the stomach. It takes in the power from the socket (Food) and then gives it out to the computer as its needed. For example, leaving a computer doing nothing will take less energy than making it handle the thousands of commands a computer goes through in a day. The energy system in our body works in much the same way. Sitting around doing nothing will take very little energy whereas running and jumping will take a lot of energy and will require your body to give you more in order to be able to allow you to do those things.
  4. 4
Memory. The brain. The memory of a computer is also a lot like parts of the brain responsible for memory by working in similar methods. As different things are needed from the memory they will be drawn out and taken away to be used as they are required. The brain handles memory in a similar way by, as memory’s are needed, draws them from the long term memory part of the brain into whatever part of the brain may need them.

Tips
Provide Details.
Please be as detailed as possible in your explanation. Don't worry about formatting! We'll take care of it. For example:
Don't say: Eat more fats.
Do say: Add fats with some nutritional value to the foods you already eat. Try olive oil, butter, avocado, and mayonnaise.

EditTips

  • Visualizing the whole layout of the computer stacked up to look like a human can be helpful for remembering what parts do what.

EditWarnings

  • Don't panic. Computers aren't as smart as humans yet.
