How to Join the wikiHow Help Team
Do you have a desire to help new contributors? The Help Team is a reference point for anyone that may have questions about something on wikiHow, whether they be a new user or an experienced community member.
EditSteps
-
1Gain some knowledge about how wikiHow works. Because you're going to be answering questions that new contributors have about wikiHow or inquiring information that can be found in articles, it's helpful if one has about three months experience and/or over 300 contribution edits. This will give you enough background to help out. Become familiar with our policies and learn your way around.Ad
-
2Add the help team talk page to your watchlist.
- Click on this watchlist link and add wikiHow:Help Team to it.
- Go to your Preferences page and under the "User Profile" tab, select the check boxes for both:
- "E-mail me when a page I'm watching is changed"
- "E-mail me also for minor edits of pages"
- You will then receive an email (to the specific email address you connected your wikiHow account to) whenever someone posts a question on the help team page.
-
3Answer the person's question on their own talk page. Avoid posting on the Help Team page itself, because the person who asked the question won't realize that you responded.
- If the question is not answered right away, but you still want to offer your assistance, you can mention that they posted an inquiry on the Help Team page. Copy and paste their message from the Help Team page onto their talk page, so that it will be easier for them to understand and won't get confused by a straight answer–many people use the {{quote}} template.
- If you would like others to add their input, leave the question up; if you feel the question has been answered completely, remove the question from the page by clicking on the "Edit" tab on top.
- Make sure every comment you leave as a help team member is personalized. You can combine a personal note with a template, but avoid using just a template. A personalized note is a note that's specific to that person's contributions.
-
4Visit the "Help Using wikiHow" forum often. Help people there whenever you can.Ad
