How to Practice Divergent Thinking
Divergent thinking is a thought process used to generate creative ideas by exploring many possibilities. Instead of taking obvious steps and walking along a straight line, one looks at different aspects of the situation, creating different results. Divergent thinking is often used as a parallel to convergent thinking that follows a particular set of logical steps to arrive at one solution.

-
1Live in the present moment. Do not separate learning from life; learn constantly, and let the nature become your learning setting and your guide. Learn to access the creative flow within you getting inspired from the world around you.Ad
-
2Ask questions, do not comply. Challenge the beliefs about the world and the machinery that makes it work. Ask questions, free your mind and think, research, listen to inspiring people and create your-own opinion.
-
3Learn how to meditate. Silence is healing.
-
4Learn how to be silent, with no external impulses. Switch off the TV, mobiles, computer, and stay alone. Learn how to just be. Silence will provide space to creativity, inspiration, and innovation.
-
5Use creative writing. Write anything that comes to your mind early in the morning when the brain is fresh and the flow of thoughts unstructured. Let the writing flow, without purpose, without direction.
-
6Utilize music and art. Let music and art become a part of your life: Learn about colors and sounds and learn how the colors and music influence your moods and emotions, how they can help you get inspired, or relaxed.
-
7Practice sports or be in a constant contact with nature. Nature creates rich, stimulating environment for the brain development.
-
8Set time and space for creativity and divergent thinking. Daily devotion, makes practice perfect.
-
9Challenge beliefs. Create your-own practice that breaks stereotypes. Practice it one morning a week, or one hour a day: walk backwards, wear different left and right shoe, wear 'strange' colors, dance in the middle of the street, meditate in the middle of the park, say 'hello' to everyone you meet, etc.Ad
