EditPart 1 of 3: Sharpen Your Body
-
1Drink water. Drink when you're thirsty and drink more when you work out. Cut unnatural sugars out of your diet such as those in most sodas and fruit juices.
-
2Eat healthy. With a healthy diet you'll excel at your workouts and see better results. Maintain a balance of quality carbs (50%), proteins (25%), and fats (25%).
- Vegetables - kale, spinach, most anything really.
- Fruits - pineapple and bananas. Watch for sugar and fruits that have acids in them, like apples and oranges.
- Seafood - salmon, tuna.
- Nuts and seeds - almonds, sunflower seeds. Watch for unhealthy fat.
- Beans and legumes - black beans, tempeh.
- Eggs and dairy - almond milk, pasture-raised or free range eggs.
- Whole grains - brown rice, quinoa.
-
3Cut sugar and sodium. Sugar turns into fat and sodium causes water retention.
-
4Exercise. This is crucial. Practice yoga for flexibility, strength workouts like P90X, and cardio such as running or swimming for endurance.
-
5Go outside. Feel the warm sun on your skin. This encourages the body's production of Vitamin D. Be careful to protect yourself from excess exposure to harmful UVA and UVB by using sunscreens or other methods.
-
6Sit less. Prolonged sitting might promote poor posture and cuts down on physical activity throughout the day.
