-
1Start by getting an inspiration. Look through home decor magazines and books to get some ideas for your bathroom. You could even find images online or watch home and gardening channels, such as HGTV. It's up to you on how you would like to decorate it, but make sure you have your ideas drawn out on a blueprint.
-
2Look at the plans of your house. Do you have an extra room? Could you turn a wide space in a big room into a bathroom? Try to think, and be creative with what you already have. You need to make sure that the plumbing lines you will install don't interfere with anything else underground.
-
3Once you have the room you are looking for, make sure it has enough space to fit a sink, a toilet, and a shower or bathtub. Some showers and tubs come together, but it all depends on the size of the room. A smaller room would be more likely to fit a smaller shower, wouldn't it? Hopefully the space you chose has enough room to fit everything you need. If not, you could try transforming an old closet or even an old bathroom! Again, try to be creative and make do with what you already have.
-
4Now that you have all of the furniture mapped out, start getting some tiles put in the floor. If your bathroom has a crumbling walls or icky paint colors, you may want to call some experienced painters to paint a new color to match the tiles. Or, you could even paint them by yourself. If you can, try adding in some windows so you can get a little light in the bathroom. Light bulbs also work.
-
5When the tiles and walls are built to your liking, call the plumbers to install the toilets, sinks, and bath/shower. In the mean time, try to get a door or two installed after the paint sets.
-
6Once the bath/shower, sink, and toilet are put in, you can finally start adding all the decor and other small necessities you need, such as toilet paper, curtains, rugs, lamps, air conditioning, garbage cans, towel racks, etc., and things to put all of the shampoos and conditioners in (an optional closet can store bathroom junk such as towels and shower caps).
-
7Now, test everything out to make sure it all works, and if you get cold showers or unflushable toilets, call your plumber who would fix it up quick.
EditTips
- If you still have more space, you could add a makeup table to store your makeup along with some facial cleansers, hairbrushes and hairspray.
- Try to match the color of the rugs and curtains to the tile colors and paint.
- Wallpaper is a great way to get the exact paint color you would like, without having to wait for the paint to dry. Make sure you like it, for it can not be replaced easily.
EditWarnings
- This process might take a little longer than you expect, so be patient and think of your future bathroom in an optimistic way.
- Be sure to clean out toilets, sinks, and bathtubs every so often, because they can get very dirty.
EditThings You'll Need
