Three Parts:Determine which MacBook model you ownDetermine how much storage space you needAdding the storage space
Did your MacBook run out of storage space? Use a storage expansion card (+128gb) as a quick and easy way to gain the additional space you need without adding any bulk, requiring any tools or requiring any programming knowledge.
Part 1 of 3: Determine which MacBook model you own
-
1Follow the instructions on Apple.com: How to identify MacBook models or Follow these steps below.Ad
-
2Choose About This Mac from the Apple () menu in the upper-left corner of your screen and click "About this Mac".
-
3On the screen that pops up, click "More Info".
-
4Find the "Computer Model" and "Manufacture Year". This is a "MacBook Air". That was Manufactured in "Early 2011" Alternatively, an advanced user can use the identifier listed in the Hardware Overview under the Hardware section.
-
5Purchase the appropriate Storage Expansion module based on the macbook identifier. According to the manufacturer, TarDisk.com , this computer would need the adapter model listed third from the right.
Part 2 of 3: Determine how much storage space you need
-
1Decide how much storage space you need and find the associated microSD card. MicroSD cards can be purchased in 32, 64 and 128gb sizes for about $20, $40 and $120 respectively.
-
2Any microSD card that is rated class UHS1 speeds or higher will be fast enough for most needs (it is capable of easily watching HD video). See comparison chart below to suit your needs.
Part 3 of 3: Adding the storage space
-
1Insert the microSD card into the expansion module case (the Mini Drive or TarDisk). Make sure that you insert it with the pins facing the correct side.
-
2Simply insert a Storage Expansion Card into the SD card reader slot on the side of your MacBook to instantly boost your storage capacity. With a 128GB card, you can store up to 62,000 photos, 32,000 songs or 1920 min. of Full HD video.
-
3To remove the storage expansion model, just pull it out. For the TarDisk Brand modules, all you need is a finger nail (or credit card) to remove the unit. For the MiniDrive brand modules, you need to purchase a special tool or wire to hook and remove the card. All brands function in a similar way.
-
4That is it, you are done! The model above with aluminum face plate is from TarDisk.com, however less aesthetically pleasing plastic versions can also be found online.Ad

Tips
- If you purchase one of the MiniDrive brand models, make sure you do not lose the "tool". If you do loose the tool, try using a piece of wire for removal.
- The expansion module will show up as a secondary drive on your computer's desk top.
- Make sure that you use the correct model adapter for your computer as each MacBook requires a different length/size and not all brand support all computers.
