How to Create a Heading in wikiHow
Need a heading or subheading for an optional section in your article? This article will help you with all of your wikiHow heading needs.
EditSteps
-
1Click on the Edit tab at the top of an article. Then click on Advanced Editing, if you're not already in Advanced Editor mode.Ad
-
2Type an Introduction. Your introduction should go first thing, without any heading before it.
-
3Type == Steps == to start off with. This is the universally accepted major heading on most wikiHow articles (unless you're creating a recipe article where ingredients might come before steps).
- Other possible headings include Tips, Warnings, Ingredients, Things You'll Need, Sources & Citations, and Related wikiHows.
-
4Add subheadings if desired for different methods or approaches, within the Steps heading. For subheadings, add three "=" prior to and after the title, like this: === Subheading ===
-
5Decide on "Part" or "Method" for your section headers. Use Methods when reading only one section allows the reader to accomplish the goal; use Parts when reading all the sections is necessary to accomplish the goal.
- To make the article display each header as a Method, put the magic word __METHODS__ at the very bottom of the article.
- To make the article display each header as a Part, put the magic word __PARTS__ at the very bottom of the article.
- Note that the site will automatically do the "of #" numbering on the headers, so you don't need to add it yourself.
-
6Publish your article when you're done.Ad
