1Do not get stern with him/her, unless s/he is being dangerous. That will only make your child feel worse about himself/herself. Tell you child about his/her wonderful qualities.

2Tell your child that everybody makes mistakes. It is just part of being human. Nothing they can do or say can help them to achieve perfection.

3Give them a historical back-story. Benjamin Franklin tried doing that. He was a great man who did many great things, but he did not succeed in his attempt to achieve moral perfection.
