It is often difficult to tell the gender of your parakeet or budgie. But here are a few simple ways of telling which sex they are of!

    Check the color of the fleshy area above the nose. This is known as its cere. The nose of a female parakeet will be whitish pink whereas the color of a male parakeet will be blue.

    In certain parakeets, the color of the legs can also determine the sex. The females have a pinkish tint whereas males have a light blue tint on their legs.

    The behavior of parakeets is also useful sometimes. Males are usually more active and have a habit of head bobbing but females are not that active and have no habit of head bobbing.
