How to Get Tweens to Talk
Getting tweens to talk is a very easy thing to do, and while it may seem difficult it just takes understanding.During this period of time in a persons life their going through emotional and physical changes so they may feel stand-offish. It is quite simple, in fact it's just like talking to anyone else. Tweens understand that they're looked at differently, so they require some patience.
EditSteps
-
1Start off by casually asking them questions. By asking questions the tween will feel cared about, not something that people try to avoid. If they like sports. ask about a certain sport team, if they're into music ask about a certain genre of music or specific artist.Ad
-
2Ease into the main point of the conversation, if there is one. If your trying to talk just to talk then keep going on. Talk about common interests or just random things. If there's a main point of the talk like if your trying to go for "the talk" or just something serious then ease it in. Don't shock them. Don't go from 'yeah, I like the Mets" to "always wear protection!" Ease it in casually.
-
3Once you've gotten the ball rolling, don't stop then. If you've gotten the topic across let an actual conversation form. Listen to what they have to say, say what you wanted to say. Let them know you care.
-
4Don't judge them. If they say something you don't agree with, don't flip out. If they say something that does need to be corrected (and you will know in your heart if it's something truly bad or something juvenile and silly).
-
5Worst comes to worst, they won't talk. If this happens, just understand that some people just are not people persons. If you really need to talk to them, then try a different time. Let them cool off if it ended badly and try in about a week or two.Ad
