Just Dowel It

This craft emerged from a classic “me” moment, in which I purchased some bags of  square wood sticks at the dollar store just because they seemed like good raw materials, but had no specific project in mind other than “… maybe I can paint them and do … something?” I ended up up painting and… Read more »

Savory Watermelon Bites

I’ve had these adorable little ceramic spoons for ages now and I’m always looking for cute ways to utilize them. I love serving ware like this because you can put something so simple inside it and yet it looks like you’ve slaved for hours. This recipe is a great option for a summer cocktail… Read more »

Momfession: Literary Hero

Alright, here’s a momfession for you… I’ve read 56 books since January. You’re amazed, right? Your opinion of me has just risen, about 56 points I’m sure. Suddenly I’m some bibliophile and you’re not sure how I fit all of this reading in amongst my regular duties as a wife, mother, sacred vessel (aka pregnant… Read more »

Family Vacation

For months we’ve been promising the boys a family vacation and we’d been trying to figure a way to pull it off without dealing with any sort of major travel… after all, two toddlers and one growing fetus sounds like exhaustion before you even reach your destination and I’m already too tired and too pregnant… Read more »

In this month’s Traditional Home Magazine my entertaining column was all about setting the stage for a gorgeous tea party! Like a Rolling Stone…

If you’re like me*, you’re in the habit of picking up cool-looking stones every time you go to a beach because your father is a geologist and you’ve been doing it since you were a wee child. Except … I recently found out that not everyone’s dad is a geologist, and most people don’t do… Read more »

Stripe, Stripe, Baby

Believe it or not, today marks the 10 week countdown on this bun in my oven. As such, we thought it was high time we start pulling together some kind of nest for our little one. Until yesterday the “nursery” was actually just the place where our pugs sleep. But the dogs have been relocated… Read more »

Apple Pie Bites

I’ve had pre-made pie dough in my freezer for months and I keep meaning to use it before it succumbs completely to freezer burn. This weekend I decided it might be a fun little baking project to do with the boys and so we set out to make mini apple pies… I mean, doesn’t everything… Read more »

Momfession: Most Valuable Parent

As most of you know, this weekend is mother’s day which has me thinking about exactly what it means to be a mother. It’s one of those jobs, much like being president or a rodeo clown, that you can’t truly comprehend until you’re in the midst of it. And while I was right about some… Read more »

About The Chic

Back in 2004 when I was looking to name my events company, I stumbled across the word 'Chic' in an old dictionary. The definition was: “a fashionable lifestyle, ideology, or pursuit”. I fell in love with the word and the idea that chic is the pursuit of something better, prettier, or cooler than you are today. Chic isn’t a state of being or even a destination, chic is the journey you take on the way to something greater. ~Rachel

Rachel's Latest Answer

Question: From RJ in Los Angeles Hi Rachel! We had a gathering last night where quite a few kids (mostly toddlers) showed up with their parents. My husband and I are childless, but love kids and aren’t afraid of messes/things breaking, etc. But, one of the mothers made a comment about “another friend of hers… Read more »
