In the season five premiere, which takes place in the moments following the shocking season four finale, Aria and the Liars are reeling from Ezra's (series star IAN HARDING) shooting at the hands of "A." The five girls quickly realize that as the one person who knows "A's" identity, Ezra is in grave danger. While Aria stands watch over Ezra at the hospital, Alison and the other girls lay a trap to finally flush out "A," but are shocked by who is ensnared. Meanwhile, Detective Holbrook (recurring guest star SEAN FARIS) steps up his efforts to find the girls and puts the Hastings family on alert. And as news of Alison's "resurrection" spreads — that she is truly alive and returning to Rosewood — Mona Vanderwaal (series star JANEL PARRISH) is not pleased.

Back in Rosewood with the events of New York behind them, the Liars feel unsettled to still be living under a cloud of secrets. Aria is haunted by the recent past events, while Emily, Hanna and Spencer try to wrap their head around the new normal. Alison, on the other hand, is still sleeping with one eye open as she is forced to stay at home with her family — who she doesn't trust. Meanwhile, Jason's (recurring guest star DREW VAN ACKER) odd behavior and Kenneth DiLaurentis' (recurring guest star JIM ABELE) search for Jessica (recurring guest star ANDREA PARKER) starts to raise eyebrows about her disappearance.

Now being forced to live through Ali's latest lie, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer try to cover their tracks, while simultaneously trying to piece together what happened in New York. Hanna and Aria have to close loose ends with the two people who know the truth about Ali's story, Mona and Ezra. Spencer and Emily try to find out the truth about Jason (recurring guest star DREW VAN ACKER) and his whereabouts the night they were in New York. Meanwhile, now that Ali is back, Hanna starts to examine who she really is: Hefty Hanna or Queen Bee Hanna.

With Alison now back in Rosewood, she attempts to regain the role of leader of the group, but she finds her four friends are not as willing to blindly follow her every whim as they once were. Besides feeling the pressure from Ali, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are also feeling under the microscope at school as the high school focuses their attention on the Liars. While most kids are morbidly curious about what happened to Ali, some are more focused on planning for Ali's return to school. Meanwhile, Aria's depression continues to spiral, and she looks for comfort from an unlikely source.

The day has finally arrived: It's Alison's first day back at Rosewood High and neither the Liars nor Alison are really ready for it. Determined to put on a brave face, Alison also hopes to help heal the damage she did years ago. But are apologies enough for those who Alison has hurt in the past? Not if Mona and her army have anything to say about it. Meanwhile, Caleb and an old foe return to Rosewood.

With the town of Rosewood trying to get back to normal, the PLLs — especially Ali — are far from okay after the latest "accident." Alison is especially spooked and thinking that it wasn't the right decision to come home after all, she starts to consider leaving for good. But Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are determined to keep her safe in Rosewood and to figure out who and what is behind this latest incident. Meanwhile, Caleb also starts second-guessing his return, and Ezra dives into his research to help find answers.

Aria begins her volunteer work at Radley and quickly gets down to business finding any answers she can about a patient who is of interest to the Liars. But she quickly hits a snag when she comes across an aggressive patient that may be the key to what the Liars are looking for. Also searching for answers, Spencer takes a note from Ezra's playbook by borrowing some of his spy equipment to keep a closer eye on the home front. Meanwhile, Hanna is caught at odds when Ali and Caleb butt heads, and Emily seeks help from her friends when her mom invites Ali over for dinner.

Hanna’s insecurities and current situation continue to plague her when Alison moves into the Marin house while her Dad is out of town. Now forced to live with Alison — the one person she is trying to avoid — Hanna retreats further into abusing alcohol and ends up in a sticky situation. Meanwhile, Aria drops the ball on her maid of honor duties when Ella returns to town to plan her wedding and Spencer and Emily pursue a dangerous lead, trying to solve the mystery of the dead girl in Alison’s grave.

Hanna continues down her boozy path, with the help of Caleb, but her friends can no longer stand by and watch Hanna self-destruct. After her last encounter with Hanna, Aria starts to take note of Zack (recurring guest star STEVE TALLEY) and wonders if Hanna — while drunk — was telling her the truth. Meanwhile, Emily tries to find information linking Alison to Noel (recurring guest star BRANT DAUGHERTY) and Spencer makes a surprising discovery at the eye doctor. Recurring guest stars include CHAD LOWE as Byron, HOLLY MARIE COMBS as Ella, TAMMIN SURSOK as Jenna and CHLOE BRIDGES (The Carrie Diaries) as Sydney.

The pressure is on for Alison to identify the man police have in custody for her kidnapping, but the Liars know if she does it would be sending an innocent man to prison and possibly walking right into an “A” trap. With Emily trying to convince Ali not to play into “A’s” hand, Spencer comes up with a plan B, in case Ali decides to make the wrong decision. Meanwhile, fed up with all of the Ali drama, Hanna tries to lead a “normal” teenage life.

Melissa (recurring guest star TORREY DeVITTO) finally tells Spencer what she knows regarding the night Ali disappeared. But what is Spencer supposed to do with the knowledge? Knowing something is off about Alison’s story, Emily is on the hunt for answers of her own. She enlists Ezra’s help in finding out more about Cyrus and his past connection to Alison. Meanwhile, Hanna asks Spencer and Toby (recurring guest star KEEGAN ALLEN) for help with Caleb’s drinking problem.

With Alison leading them down a dangerous path and “A” barring them from telling the police the truth, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer feel trapped and are desperate to find a way out of this mess. But could the girls lose everything by putting their faith in a possibly untrustworthy ally? Meanwhile, Alison begins to build up her own army now that the PLLs have turned their back on her.

The presence of Mrs. DiLaurentis (recurring guest star ANDREA PARKER -- Desperate Housewives, Less Than Perfect, The Pretender) in Rosewood continues to unnerve all those around her, especially when she gives Hanna a family parrot, whose gift for mimicry provides startling insight into Alison's last days. Tired of feeling defenseless against "A," Aria decides to learn self-defense and is intrigued by her sexy instructor. Meanwhile, Toby (recurring guest star KEEGAN ALLEN) shares a heartbreaking secret with Spencer, and Hanna makes an alarming discovery regarding her mom. To complicate matters even further, "A" nearly kills the newest Liar, Mona, and makes a drastic move which leads to potentially devastating circumstances for Emily.

Hanna worries that her mother is keeping a dangerous secret and is determined to protect her at all costs, which leads to an uncomfortable meeting with Detective Holbrook (recurring guest star SEAN FARIS -- The Vampire Diaries, Reunion). A clue in Ali's things leads the Liars to a creepy mask maker, who takes a shine to Emily and may have ties to another Rosewood resident. Hanna comes up with a desperate plan to save her mother from a conviction and turns to the only person she thinks can help: Mona. Caleb tries to convince Hanna that Mona can't be trusted, causing Mona to prove her loyalty in the most unexpected way. And Spencer returns to an old haunt to investigate new evidence relating to Wilden and his surprising ties to another mysterious death. Meanwhile, recent machinations from "A" take their toll on Emily and her mom, driving Emily to reconnect with her old boss Zoe (guest star RUMER WILLIS -- 90210) to look for an escape. Still living at a motel, Emily is taken aback when Mrs. DiLaurentis (recurring guest star ANDREA PARKER) offers to let her move into Ali's old room and is even more distraught when the other Liars insist Emily take Ali's mom up on her offer. Hanna explodes when it appears her mother's recent good fortune has taken a turn for the worse. And Ezra continues to reel from Maggie's big news when he's dealt an even more crushing blow regarding his son. Meanwhile, Aria makes an effort to get involved in Jake's (recurring guest star RYAN GUZMAN) interests and finds herself with an opportunity to follow up on a lead. And "A" continues to toy with Toby's (recurring guest star KEEGAN ALLEN) emotions regarding his mother's death, and Spencer is along for the ride.

After uncovering recent evidence that suggests "A" is hiding out closer than realized, the Liars step up their investigation into their most recent suspect. Hanna continues to crumble due to her newfound infamy as the daughter of a murder suspect. To complicate matters, Hanna is being stalked by fellow student Travis (recurring guest star LUKE KLEINTANK -- Bones, Gossip Girl), until she learns he is hiding a secret that may change her life. Meanwhile, Toby (recurring guest star KEEGAN ALLEN) continues to be manipulated by "A" dangling insight into his mother's death. And Ezra tries to reach out to Aria for help in dealing with his recent troubles, right when she becomes more determined to move on with Jake (recurring guest star RYAN GUZMAN), at a Western-themed dance that turns into a two-step with "A."

In the shocking summer finale, an intriguing riddle from "A" has the Liars hitting the road and heading to Ravenswood, where they are surrounded by some familiar faces. During a very special magic show, one Liar pulls a disappearing act, leaving the other three scrambling to make sure she hasn't succumbed to the tricks of "A." But before they can hightail it out of Ravenswood, they make a shocking discovery that proves everything they thought they knew about "A" and the "A" team might be wrong. With this discovery, the Liars may just have started "World War A." Meanwhile, a joyous reunion between Hanna and her mother is cut short when "A" sets sights on a new target. And Toby (recurring guest star KEEGAN ALLEN) uncovers some surprising information about Wren (recurring guest star JULIAN MORRIS).

In the special Halloween episode, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer crash the Ravenswood Founders Day Celebration after a clue in "A's" new lair suggests that Ali may indeed be alive. Dressed in their finest Edwardian wear, the ladies hit the creepy cemetery party to find Ali before "A" can. But if Ali is truly alive, could the PLLs be leading "A" straight to their friend without knowing it? With Ezra lurking in the shadows, "A" may be closer than the girls realize. Meanwhile, Caleb heads to Ravenswood to help the girls and meets kindred soul Miranda (guest star NICOLE GALE ANDERSON -- Beauty and the Beast, Make It or Break It) along the way.

Armed with the knowledge that Alison is alive, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer now have more questions than ever before. Trying to put the pieces together, Hanna comes up with the idea that if they find out who is really buried in Ali's grave it may lead to much-needed answers. But as the girls search, Emily has trouble dealing with how she feels about Alison being alive. Meanwhile, Caleb returns to Rosewood, and Ezra has clandestine meetings with Mona and Aria.

Now that Hanna has shared with Aria, Emily and Spencer that she has Ali's diary, the girls hope it can shed light on their many questions. But with the diary full of stories that have been coded to cover the truth, each girl must take a turn to figure out which stories are about them. Hopefully, when they are through they will find the story that could finally give them answers to who has been going after Alison. But with each story more personal than the last, will Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer really want to admit which story is about them? Meanwhile, Spencer is suspicious of her father's (recurring guest star NOLAN NORTH) latest interaction with Mrs. DiLaurentis (recurring guest star ANDREA PARKER).

Shana (recurring guest star AERIEL MIRANDA) tells Emily that she has a message from Ali, but can Emily and the girls trust Shana with all that they know about her? And when Shana ups the stakes and says that Ali wants to meet Emily — and only Emily — could it all be part of an "A" plan, or is Emily really Alison's favorite? With Emily becoming more hopeful by the minute, Spencer is determined to not let her friend get hurt. Meanwhile, Aria and Hanna deal with matters of the heart.

Hanna's new interest in crime novels helps her to come up with a plan to try and figure out whose body is in Ali's grave. While Hanna is on her hunt, Spencer is working overtime to decipher the stories in Ali's diary which she hopes will reveal the identity of Ali's mystery man. But with both girls hot on the trail, will their work lead them straight into the path of "A"? Meanwhile, Aria is upset with the new friend Mike (recurring guest star CODY ALLEN CHRISTIAN) has made and Emily's dad (recurring guest star ERIC STEINBERG) is concerned about her behavior.

With Spencer's possible revelation about Board Shorts, she is now more determined than ever to prove her theory before bringing it to the other girls' attention — especially since it could have a devastating effect on one of the Liars. But with many sleepless nights fueled by prescription medication, Hanna starts to notice Spencer's odd behavior. Will Detective Hanna be able to figure out Spencer's secret before Spencer is ready to share? Meanwhile, Emily looks to make amends with Alison through Shana (recurring guest star AERIEL MIRANDA), and all of Aria's lies start to take a toll on her.

This special black-and-white episode gives a nod to 1940s-era film noir as Spencer's numerous sleepless nights with the help of prescription pills start to take a toll on her, as her hunt for Ali and much-needed answers continues. As she pours over newly acquired information, her world view takes a turn into black and white. Now teleported into the world of film noir, Spencer tries to come up with the answers she and her friends have been desperately looking for. But in this world of fedora hats, switchboards and 15-cent coffee, can Spencer finally put all of the pieces together that lay in front of her?

Spencer is determined to finally tell Aria what she has found out about Ezra, but Emily and Hanna are worried about what it could do to their friend. A wrench is thrown into the plan when Ezra tells Aria of his concern and suspicion of Spencer's recent addiction problem. Now with Spencer's credibility being questioned, can the girls trust what Spencer has been telling them about Ezra? Could this all be a figment of Spencer's tired brain, or is it just a clever ploy by Ezra to cover his tracks?

Emily, Hanna and Spencer are concerned for Aria as they watch their friend crumble after learning shocking news about Ezra. Not knowing what is true or who to trust, Aria goes looking for answers, not wanting to believe this revelation to be true. Spencer is concerned for Aria, but she is not doing so well herself. Trying to prove to her parents and Toby (recurring guest star KEEGAN ALLEN) that she can kick the habit on her own, Spencer has to be careful because one misstep could send her to rehab. Can Spencer really rein it in, or will her constant curiosity and drive be her undoing? Meanwhile, Paige (recurring guest star LINDSEY SHAW) has had enough with Emily's secrets and is determined to stop it.

Emily takes up the sleuthing reins as she searches for answers about Ezra and Mona. After confronting both, Emily tries to make sense of the heartbreaking situation. Hanna, on the other hand, begins a new search after being confronted by Detective Holbrook (recurring guest star SEAN FARIS) and Lieutenant Tanner (recurring guest star ROMA MAFFIA) with a possible new lead in Alison's case. Meanwhile, Spencer and Aria lean on new men in their lives to recover.

It is a rough time for all of the Liars as Spencer is reeling about the memories from her "lost summer," Aria is still nursing a broken heart, Emily struggles to deal with Paige's (recurring guest star LINDSEY SHAW) betrayal and Hanna unsuccessfully attempts to wade back into the dating pool. But as each girl tries to deal with her individual issues, they must focus their attention on their suspicions surrounding Mrs. DiLaurentis (recurring guest star ANDREA PARKER). Assuming that Mrs. D knows more about Ali and the night she went missing, the girls decide to help out at her charity bridal fashion show to gain access to the DiLaurentis house to search for answers. Meanwhile, Ella (recurring guest star HOLLY MARIE COMBS) and Jason (recurring guest star DREW VAN ACKER) return to Rosewood, each with something to hide.

In the fourth season finale, after years of questions and mystery surrounding the night Alison DiLaurentis disappeared, her four best friends come face to face with Ali and finally learn what really happened to her that September night. Now, with their newfound knowledge of Ali's long-held secrets, can Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer help Alison finally figure out who "A" is?

In the season three premiere, a summer has passed since Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer found out about Mona (series star JANEL PARRISH) being "A" and the death of Maya (recurring guest star Bianca Lawson). With the terror seemingly over and an alleged murderer now behind bars, the town of Rosewood is slowly healing from old and new wounds. Each of the four girls spent their summer in different ways — with Aria taking a photography class, Spencer taking college courses at Hollis, Hanna taking cooking classes with her boyfriend, Caleb (series star TYLER BLACKBURN), and Emily building houses in Haiti. But what looks "normal" for each girl is not necessarily so, as all four are hardly over what happened. With post-traumatic stress, anger and the acquisition of more secrets, the four girls are anything but fine. Now back together and coming upon the second anniversary of Alison's disappearance, the girls find themselves back on the defensive when a shocking event rocks Rosewood.

Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are on edge with the arrival of a new message from "A." This new player is determined to show the girls that he/she means business. After getting a gruesome reminder that "A" is still calling the shots, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer try to quickly devise a plan on how to deal with this threat and the usual "A" game that has now been taken up a notch. Spencer and Hanna continue to play with fire as they look for answers, while one of Aria's past indiscretions becomes fodder for "A's" game. Meanwhile, a still-very-shaky Emily tries to focus on school, but could easily be derailed when she remembers a crucial piece from "that night."

With Spencer's mom, Veronica Hastings (recurring guest star LESLEY FERA), now taking Garrett (recurring guest star YANI GELLMAN) on as a client, Spencer is sure that there is a reason forcing her mother to take on the case. But when she starts questioning, she doesn't so much learn why her mother took the case as she stumbles upon a larger Hastings secret. Emily also gets some surprising news about her English exam and fears what those consequences could hold. Meanwhile, Aria agrees to be Jenna's (recurring guest star TAMMIN SURSOK) accompanist in order to keep tabs on her, and Hanna tries to reach out to Lucas (recurring guest star BRENDAN ROBINSON).

Some secrets the girls are holding onto should be shared, while others are best kept hidden — no matter what the cost. The truth can sometimes hurt and the girls must take that into account when deciding to reveal secrets. Visiting Mona is driving a wedge between Hanna and Caleb. But would it be so bad if Hanna told Caleb that her visits were because she needed to see Mona to get information about this new "A"? Aria, on the other hand, is dreading telling her mom, Ella, that her dad, Byron, is back in the dating scene and dating Meredith (recurring guest star AMANDA SCHULL -- One Tree Hill, Sorority Wars, Center Stage). But wouldn't it be better if Ella found out from Aria than hearing it someplace else? And Spencer needs to know the truth about Melissa (recurring guest star TORREY DeVITTO -- The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill), even if the truth hurts. Meanwhile, Emily finds some solace after meeting Maya's cousin, Nathan (recurring guest star STERLING SULIEMAN -- The Vampire Diaries).

Jenna's (recurring guest star TAMMIN SURSOK) extravagant birthday party seems to be too good to be true and Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer think something else might be up — especially when it turns out that Garrett (recurring guest star YANI GELLMAN) is getting a pass out of jail to visit his ailing mother on the same night. The timing can't just be a coincidence, and the girls are convinced it all has to do something with "A." With Emily getting an insiders' view working the party, Aria working the crowd as a party-goer and Spencer staked out at the hospital, what could go wrong? The answer is easy: everything. Meanwhile, Hanna's wallowing through heartbreak leads her to a shocking discovery.

After getting a major clue from Garrett (recurring guest star YANI GELLMAN), Hanna and Spencer set out on their separate missions. Hanna sees a perfect opportunity to catch "A" or to at least see who is helping Garrett out. But her perfect plan starts to quickly unravel, leaving Hanna frustrated and desperate. Spencer tries to figure out the meaning of the clue and enlists Jason's (recurring guest star DREW VAN ACKER) help in the search. Meanwhile, Emily gets another flashback from "that night" which leads her to a surprising suspect and Aria starts to question Ezra's sudden influx of cash.

With new key evidence in Alison's murder case, Hanna fears that "A" may be framing her after a visit from Detective Wilden (recurring guest star BRYCE JOHNSON). With paranoia setting in, Aria decides that she has to turn to Mona for answers if she is going to help Hanna. But is Aria ready to face her former tormentor and, more to the point, is Mona ready to give Aria the answers the girls are desperately looking for? Meanwhile, someone from Alison and Jason's (recurring guest star DREW VAN ACKER) past arrives in Rosewood and piques the girls' interest.

Emily is struggling to deal not only with the loss of Maya (guest star BIANCA LAWSON), but the knowledge that someone drugged her "that night" and how it has now affected Paige (recurring guest star LINDSEY SHAW). Going to make amends with Paige and try to explain the drugged flask ends up leading Emily to more insight of what she did "that night." Also, in trying to help Emily out, Spencer turns to Caleb to help crack into a website that might hold answers for them all. Meanwhile, Aria realizes she knows very little about Ezra after meeting his mother and Hanna makes a plea on Mona's behalf.

Spencer and Aria find themselves at Noel (recurring guest star BRANT DAUGHERTY) and Eric (guest star ROBBIE AMELL -- Revenge) Kahn's party in hopes of saving Spencer's college career. What originally was going to be a quick stop by the party to ask a favor of CeCe's (guest star VANESSA RAY -- Damages) friend turns into an opportunity for Aria and Spencer to get some answers from Jenna (recurring guest star TAMMIN SURSOK) with a heated game of "Truth." In this special Halloween episode, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are looking forward to some good Halloween fun now that the traumatic events with Nate are behind them. But once aboard the Rosewood Ghost Train, the girls are in for much more than just some childish tricks or treats. With "A" running amuck and unexpected party-goers popping up at every turn, this Halloween event becomes one killer party. Forced to talk out their problems, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer feel more alone than ever. Even with the reassurance that everything they discuss won't leave the therapist's office, can the liars finally tell someone about "A?" Or is there no place safe from "A's" watchful eye?

With the girls being forced to go their separate ways for a bit, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer need each other now more than ever. Emily struggles with her family's impending move to Texas, but when a college athletic scout approaches her after a swim meet, she sees an opportunity that could keep her in Rosewood. Plus, Hanna's father returns to town — with her friends at arm's length, will Hanna forgive Mona (recurring guest star JANEL PARRISH -- Bratz) so she has someone to lean on? Spencer tries to be supportive of Toby's (recurring guest star KEEGAN ALLEN) new plans to free himself of his family and Rosewood. Meanwhile, on the eve of Ezra's last day at Rosewood High, he begs Aria to meet him so they can work things out. Aria, on the other hand, is not so sure there's anything left to say. As Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer try to keep their distance from each other, each girl looks to distractions to help fulfill the "separate time" request from their parents. Aria channels her inner artist and signs up for a pottery class at Hollis College. Not only does the class qualify as "separate time," but it also gives her an excuse to see Ezra on campus, so there are benefits on both sides — that is, until she finds out Jenna is also taking the class. Emily stays focused on her swimming career and how that could help her stay in Rosewood, but when she doesn't get the solid commitment from Danby University, she comes up with a way to fudge things to convince her mom to stay. But will goody-two-shoes Emily be able to go through with her sneaky plan? Feeling like the only one who doesn't have a hobby, Hanna turns to Lucas to see if she can join the yearbook staff to fill her time.

Lucas (recurring guest star BRENDAN ROBINSON) starts to unravel as the date with his new dream girl approaches — which Hanna arranged for him — so Hanna feels the need to help him out. But when Caleb (recurring guest star TYLER BLACKBURN) is thrown into the mix and Hanna's idea of what is helpful starts to backfire, Lucas' date takes a downward turn. Emily, on the other hand, can't seem to find the closure that others are relishing; rather, she digs her heels in to find any shred of evidence they may have overlooked. Aria looks to find comfort in Ezra, but with their relationship still new to the outside world, the couple struggles to be so public so fast. With everyone sharing a huge sigh of relief, could Emily be right — that the devil they think has been put to rest is nowhere near the evil that still looms out there and is out to get the girls? Spencer, on the other hand, quickly learns that while she has been dealing with larger issues, Mona (recurring guest star JANEL PARRISH) has stepped in and taken charge of running the event. As the charity event gets closer, walking down a runway in a fancy gown may not seem that hard — but nothing is ever easy for four pretty little liars. Meanwhile, Emily re-evaluates her casual dating stance when it starts to look like Samara (recurring guest star CLAIRE HOLT) might be dating someone else.

Set one year after the disappearance of Alison (series star SASHA PIETERSE), the manipulative and vindictive queen bee of their group, the series revolves around four 16-year-old girlfriends — Aria (series star LUCY HALE), Spencer (series star TROIAN BELLISARIO), Hanna (series star ASHLEY BENSON), and Emily (series star SHAY MITCHELL) — who have lost touch with one another until each begins to receive mysterious messages from "A," suggesting that Alison is watching them. Linked by their former bond and the panic and confusion the enigmatic messages cause, the friends are suddenly reunited, though each girl has her own secrets — secrets she wants no one else to know.

The circumstances surrounding Alison's disappearance continue to haunt Aria, Emily, Spencer and Hanna as questions arise about the night she went missing. To complicate matters, the return of Jenna Cavanaugh (recurring guest star TAMMIN SURSOK -- Home and Away, The Young and the Restless) to Rosewood makes the girls face an unpleasant past and an incident that sealed their friendship forever. Can the girls face what has taken place in their past, especially since "A" won't let them forget? Meanwhile temptation is everywhere as Aria tries her hardest to stay away from Ezra and Spencer won't shy away from her sister's fiancé, Wren (recurring guest star JULIAN MORRIS -- 24, ER).

"The past will come back to haunt you" — this saying has never been more true than for Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily. As the girls try to pay tribute to Alison's memory, the four friends are faced with unresolved issues. Aria has an unsettling encounter with Byron's old mistress, Meredith (recurring guest star AMBER BORYCKI -- The Big Bang Theory, Harper's Island). Emily is forced to see Toby Cavanaugh (recurring guest star KEEGAN ALLEN) in a new light. Spencer is reeling in the wake of someone with a vengeance and Hanna is desperate to have her boyfriend forget the "old" Hanna. With "A" taunting them every step of the way, can the girls forge ahead and leave the past behind? Meanwhile, Detective Wilden (recurring guest star BRYCE JOHNSON -- Popular) uses his new connection to Hanna and Ashley to his benefit. But will he get the answers he's looking for by making himself at home in the Marin household?

Tired of being harassed by "A," the girls decide to put a stop to the anonymous emails and text messages by blocking all unknown users. But just because the mysterious ghost isn't looming over their heads, the girls' problems are far from over. With a surprise visit by a father, a surprise gift from a prospective paramour, getting some unwanted advice and an unwanted scholarly accolade — the girls' lives continue to get more complicated by the day. Do the four girls really think they can keep "A" away forever?

Trying to ignore "A" backfired for the girls and now they must pay the penalty. Whether it is a family in crisis, parental praise for an undeserved honor looming over their head or wearing totally unfashionable scrubs while working off a debt — the girls must deal with it all. And on top of that the lipstick message from "A" is still haunting them. Meanwhile, the girls must also deal with typical teenage drama — the boy kind. A new guy arrives and pushes the status quo, a secret love is tested, a new romance blooms and an old romance floats in the grey area.

The Homecoming decorating committee is knee-deep in balloons and girls are jockeying for position to be the queen, while four friends from Rosewood just try to stay afloat. One girl makes a shocking choice for a homecoming that puts her in a possibly sticky situation. Will the girls be able to protect one of their own or will the evening turn out to be a night they can never forget?

In the aftermath of the disastrous homecoming dance, the girls try to sort out the devastation that is left behind. Parents, boyfriends (secret ones, possible ones and current ones), siblings and friends are all in flux, and if the little liars don't act fast, the situation could go from bad to worse. To top it off, the girls are sitting on some killer information about Toby (recurring guest star KEEGAN ALLEN) that some people would die to get their hands on. Meanwhile, "A" isn't the only one sending Aria text messages, as tensions rise in the Montgomery household. Best-selling author SARA SHEPARD (Pretty Little Liars) makes a cameo appearance as a substitute teacher at Rosewood High School.

After much planning, the day of Alison's memorial is around the corner and the girls are ready to say their good-byes. But when Alison's brother, Jason DiLaurentis (guest star PARKER BAGLEY -- A Nightmare on Elm Street [2010]), arrives, Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Emily quickly learn that saying good-bye is at the bottom of his list. As Jason takes over, and Detective Wilden (recurring guest star BRYCE JOHNSON) returns, will the girls be able to celebrate Alison's life in the peaceful and positive way they were hoping for? Meanwhile, Hanna is forced to deal with a situation at home that could really cramp her "It girl" status.

A day of SAT testing is put on hold when a violent storm hits Rosewood. But instead of being able to enjoying the postponement of academics, the girls are stuck inside the school dealing with the drama that follows them everywhere. Each girl finds herself in the middle of a tense situation ... and whether it's between friends, potential love interests, a boyfriend and a parent, or between the past and the present, at the end of the day, the girls will think the taking a standardized test would have been a piece of cake compared to what they went through. Meanwhile, Byron leans on Ashley for advice on parenting as his relationship with Ella takes a turn for the worse.

The discovery of a new piece of evidence about Alison's disappearance brings the FBI to town, and the last thing the girls want to do is go "glamping" (glam-style camping) for a birthday party. But when they get a text that insinuates that "A" will be at the party, Spencer gets the idea that it may be their chance to finally put an end to the threats. Once at the camp party, however, not even the mani/pedi station can lift the girls' spirits when the evening takes a dangerous turn. Meanwhile, the Marin financial situation is pushing Ashley to the brink.

In this episode, moments after Hanna is hit by a car, the girls' world is turned upside down. "A" is no longer content to play a game of cat and mouse, and thing take a far more precarious turn. More than ever, the four girls must turn to each other for support. With Hanna in the hospital and armed with the information of who "A" is, the girls backtrack to figure out how they got to this point. How could this person know everything? Meanwhile, each girl must also deal with a secret that is either discovered, confessed or confronted, proving that secrets still abound in Rosewood, Pennsylvania.

Hanna's return home from the hospital should be a joyous event, but being stuck in a wheelchair and feeling haunted by "A" makes her return feel more like a Hitchcock nightmare than a proper homecoming. Even though the girls try their best to support Hanna, they all have troubles they must face as well: Spencer is still reeling from Melissa's (recurring guest star TORREY DeVITTO -- One Tree Hill) surprise, when an unexpected roadblock is thrown up in her relationship with Alex (recurring guest star DIEGO BONETA -- 90210, Mean Girls 2); Emily is hoping that an introduction to Maya during a tense family meal will smooth whatever apprehensions her parents may have; and blackmail is in the air as Aria and Ezra suspect a student is on to them.

Relationships are in flux in Rosewood as the girls face many obstacles. As Noel (recurring guest star BRANT DAUGHERTY) steps up his pursuit of Ezra, Aria and Ezra begin to feel like there may be no way out. Emily must also deal with opposition to her love life, as her mother Pam's (recurring guest star NIA PEEPLES -- Fame; Walker, Texas Ranger; Barbershop) perceived tolerance of Maya comes to a screeching halt. And Spencer must now handle the return of happy newlyweds Melissa (recurring guest star TORREY DeVITTO) and Ian (recurring guest star RYAN MERRIMAN -- The Pretender, The Ring Two), even though her suspicions of Ian's ties to Alison grow. Meanwhile, "A" has Hanna jumping through old hoops with regard to the stolen money. Will Hanna fall back into her old ways, or does she have the will power to stand up to "A" and her games? With the support of each other, however, and unexpected help from an unlikely source, the future for the girls doesn't look so hopeless.

As the school gets ready for the dance-a-thon, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer have more on their minds than just raising money for the school trip to Washington, D.C. Hanna is having a hard time finding a job to help her family's financial situation; will she be able to refuse when "A" has a job for her? Emily can only think of Maya and is so desperate to speak to her that she enlists the help of Caleb (recurring guest star TYLER BLACKBURN -- Rockville CA), the new bad boy at school. Meanwhile, Aria's former babysitter, Simone (guest star ALONA TAL -- Supernatural), comes back to town for a surprise visit, but what should be a happy reunion quickly becomes a nightmare for Aria when Simone sets her sights on Ezra. And, as an important piece of property goes missing, Spencer finds being in close quarters with her new brother-in-law, Ian (recurring guest star RYAN MERRIMAN), more difficult than ever.

The girls try to resume a sense of normalcy in their lives, but even the simple tasks of dating and extracurricular activities meet with strife. Emily must deal with a jealous teammate, Paige (recurring guest star LINDSEY SHAW -- 10 Things I Hate About You, Aliens in America, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide), who is threatened by Emily's return to the pool, as Aria and Ezra plan their first date out in the open. And Hanna is still stuck playing "A's" game, but the next hurdle might just have complications for one of the other girls. With "A" pulling the strings and making matters worse, will the girls be able to weather the storm and lie their way out of it, or will they have to face the ugly truths? Meanwhile, Spencer turns to Alison's brother, Jason (recurring guest star PARKER BAGLEY), for information about the night they believe Alison died, only to have to face part of her unpleasant past with Ali.

A crucial swim meet for the Rosewood Sharks is the setting where Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer experience a lot of turmoil. Emily and Paige (recurring guest star LINDSEY SHAW) go for round two, as they are pitted against each other to compete for the anchor leg of the big race. Plus, Caleb (recurring guest star TYLER BLACKBURN) calls in his favor with a guilty Hanna as she tries to deter Aria from asking too many questions about Ella's ticket to the museum opening. As secrets start to be revealed and antagonists become less threatening, could the game be changing for the girls? Meanwhile, Spencer takes on the task of tutoring a fellow student to try and get some answers.

What happens to one little liar when parent-teacher conferences come around and her father sits face to face with the love of her life? What about when another one reaches out to a tarnished innocent, when nobody else will? And what about the liar who is taken by surprise by an unpleasant person? Lastly, don't forget about the liar who is getting way too comfortable with someone she might not want to trust. Whatever the situation, "A" is certain to have something to say about it. Oh, just another normal day in Rosewood, PA, for Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer.

As their doubts, fears and suspicions grow, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer start to wonder what the true face of evil looks like. Is it the girl who holds a grudge and will do anything to keep her loved ones near? Is it the new brother-in-law who might have a darker side beneath the surface? Or is it an unknown stranger who is playing puppet master with the lives of four girls? Only time will tell who the bad seed is. Meanwhile, Aria views the school play as an opportunity to get closer to Ezra. But will her plan backfire and put her relationship in jeopardy?

After a shocking revelation from the police, the spotlight is turned on four little liars who look to be crying wolf. But with everything pointing to Ian (recurring guest star RYAN MERRIMAN), how could the girls be wrong? Or could this be just another game "A" is playing with them? With the cops now demanding answers from Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer, will the girls come clean about "A," or are some secrets better left unspoken? Meanwhile, secret relationships take a toll on some of the girls while blossoming for others. Love is not for the faint of heart.

Everyone has a secret in Rosewood and it's only a matter of time before it is revealed. Four girls know this to be especially true and are reminded of it on a daily basis. As the police turn up the heat and make Spencer an official "person of interest," maybe the girls should take a closer look at those around them. The boy one has given her heart to may have ulterior motives; the girl they have wronged may not be as innocent as they think; and the person another likes may make a rash decision that cuts to the bone. All are things that the girls should take into account ... before "A" does. Meanwhile, Ella and Byron try to decide what the latest development in their relationship means for them and their family.

Rosewood's Founders Festival sets the stage for more secrets. Everyone has something to hide — whether it is a secret romance, or revealing a true identity and true intentions. For Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer, keeping things hidden is second nature, but having to live with those secrets can become a big burden. How long can Aria be with someone when they can't go out in public? Is it a true friendship when Spencer and Toby aren't able to be seen together? How truthful can Emily be when she can't be honest about whom she wants to be with? And how can Hanna move on when secretly she wants to be with the one who broke her heart? With someone like "A" out there to watch their every move, the four girls may not have to worry about keeping things hidden for too much longer.

In the season one finale, now that Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are in possession of the information that Alison left them, the girls decide that it's time to finally put an end to "A" and the mystery surrounding their friend. But without certain proof that their hunch is right, how can the girls catch "A" in his/her own game? With little more than a video and hazy memories of the night that Alison disappeared, the girls may have to turn to an unlikely source of information to help them put a stop to "A" once and for all — or so they think.
