    Trim the ferret's nails. Do this before bathing--it's easier with 2 people. Use ferret or cat nail trimmers (they have tiny nails).

    Know how to bathe the ferret. Get ferret shampoo (more natural the better). Try buying the ones at Petco ($2).
    • You can bathe them in the sink or a bathtub. Get their fur wet with the water; take at least a quarter-size glob of shampoo for a full sized ferret and "scrubba dub dub"! Make sure to rinse all of the shampoo out.

    Dry the ferret. Take an old towel and wrap them up in a "cocoon". It will take about 15 min. to dry, depending on how thick the fur is.

    Brush the ferret. Once it is completely fuzzy & dry, you can take a bristled brush and brush them. This helps them keep the up heat in their body because the fur is "packed down".

    Clean the ferret's ears. Purchase ferret ear solution. Take a cotton ball or paper towel (not Q-tips). Dip the cotton ball into the solution and gently wipe over the ear (try to get inside of the ear).

    Clean the ferret's teeth. Get a cheap baby toothbrush from a dollar store. If you have enough money, you can also buy ferret/ cat toothpaste, but it isn't a must have. All you have to do is brush the ferret's teeth like you would brush your own.

  • Clean your ferret cage the same day you clean your ferret.
  • If you accidentally clip your ferret's vein while trimming, no worries! Just take a cotton ball or paper towel and apply pressure.
  • If you have a small tub of lukewarm water, you can also use that to bathe them, as long as you use actually running water from the faucet to wash the soap off.

Warnings

  • Don't use Q-tips unless you have had your ferret over a year (so you know that you know what you're doing).
