AV-Comparatives
AV-Comparatives is an Austrian independent not-for-profit organization[1] with an antivirus test lab.[2] It tests and assesses antivirus software, regularly releasing charts and reports that are freely available to the public and the media. Antivirus vendors have to meet various requirements in order to take part in the tests, so only trustworthy and reliable software vendors are included.
AV-Comparatives issues relevant awards, based on antivirus software's comprehensive performance according to multiple testing criteria.[3] Since they are issued by an independent testing lab, AV-Comparatives awards and ratings are considered unbiased[by whom?] and well documented sources of information for antivirus software users. The lab is a non-profit organization and is funded by charging fees to antivirus software companies which seek to have their products tested, and is also supported by the University of Innsbruck and other academic bodies from around the world, as well as by the Austrian Federal Government and the regional government of Tirol.[4]

Most known test: Real World Protection Test[edit]
The AV-Comparatives Real World Protection Test is among the most labor-intensive antivirus tests out there. The end result is a test environment that very closely approximates how well an antivirus product will protect real-world users. Test results are released monthly (from March to June and August to November). Two detailed overall result reports are released in June and December. The Real Wold Protection Test framework was recognized by the “Standortagentur Tirol” with the 2012 Cluster Award for innovation in computer science.[5]
