How to Run Downhill Fast
Downhill running is an extremely rewarding recreational sport. It involves running down steep slopes without fear or hesitation. It can be done in any landscape by any one at any time.
EditSteps
-
1Find a suitable hill. The best ones have obstacles such as trees, ledges to jump off, and thick grass. Before you head down, make sure that you can make it safely down.Ad
-
2Get to the height you want to be on the hill.
-
3Plan a path. Straight lines tend to work best.
-
4If you want to, bring a timer along so that you can record and race your previous times.
-
5If you want to go very fast, then take jumps down. However, you must be sure that you have a sure landing. If you make a bad judgment, you will find your self rolling down.
-
6Avoid the obstacles. Obstacles make for the most intense thrill but certain obstacles are very difficult. If you find yourself faced with a very difficult object, you probably shouldn't go down that way.
- Ledges If the ledge has a clear landing less than your height down then jump. Ledges tend to have very good solid bases. To avoid twisting an ankle land with your knees bent, your feet spread apart widely and continue running immediately. If a cliff is higher than your height approach the edge with caution. Twist around and let your self slide down with your hands then kick off the wall. Land like I said above and continue.
- Creeks Coming across one of these is a treat for those who risk hazardous valleys. Creeks that have water are fun to jump over and empty creeks are basically down hill highways. Remember to watch out for slimy rocks.
- There are others like forests and rocky outcrops which are also rewarding.

EditAlternate Steps
If you prefer a way that is just as fast, if not faster that looks cooler, you may try this. However, it is only effective if you can jump extremely far or if the hill is very slanted.
- Jump as far as you can away from the hill.
- Once you start to touch the ground, land in parkour.
- The last position of the parkour landing is the squat. Instead of standing up, jump from the squat position and repeat the process.
EditTips
- Good shoes help
- Bigger hill, bigger thrill
EditWarnings
- Make sure you don't run on hidden objects.
- Look for signs that say you're trespassing.
- Watch out for Rabbit holes.
- The alternate way should only be done if you do not get dizzy easily.
