Have you ever seen people on wikiHow with nice, customized signatures? Want one? It's fairly easy to make these signatures. With just a bit of HTML and/or wiki markup, you can make one to use!

EditSteps

  1. Create a Personalized Signature on wikiHow Step 1.jpg
    1
Create a page in your user name space for your signature code. To do this, go to your user page, and at the end of the URL, write "/signature" or "/sig". It will look like this: http://www.wikihow.com/User:YOURUSERNAME/signature. Click Edit to start the page.

Place in the code you desire to use in your signature and save the page. This should include at least a link to your user page. You can also use colored or modified text, add a link to your talk page, or other things. To learn more about using these codes, see How to Use Advanced Wiki Syntax. You can also ask another user experienced with these codes to help you.
  3. Create a Personalized Signature on wikiHow Step 3.jpg
    3
Go to your preferences under "User Profile" and click the box enabling "Raw Signature (without automatic link)". Then, for your nickname, type in {{User:YOURUSERNAME/signature}}, making sure to use double braces. See this picture:

Save your Preferences by clicking Save. Your new signature, made by writing four tildes like this: ~~~~, will be whatever code you placed in your signature page. Congratulations! You're done!

EditTips

  • You can also copy the code you want for your signature directly in, eliminating the need for the signature page. However, a signature page is neater and you can see what it looks like before you use it.
  • You can look at the code of other's signatures to get an idea of how to build your signature.
  • The wikiHow software automatically adds a code to your template that will force it to show the code, rather than the template. It looks like this: {{SUBST:User:Your-Username}}. This is completely fine, and doesn't affect your signature's contents.

EditWarnings

  • Using a "nickname" (the name for signing things) which is different from your "real name" (the name showing up on articles) is discouraged.
  • Close your tags. Make sure they are closed before you use it.
  • Avoid using garish colors which strain the eyes.
