If you are a wikiHow enthusiast or need to search for other things other than how-to articles on wikiHow, you'll need to have a bigger branch of information than just those how-to articles on the site when you search. If you'd like to learn how to set what the search results page shows, it'll be necessary to set some other ground namespaces to show in your preferences. This article will explain how to set these namespaces so a slightly bigger resultant page can show. Read on from Step 1 below to find out how to achieve this task.

    Visit your wikiHow preferences page in your web browser.

    Click the Search tab.

    Determine which categories you should use. Although the (Main) option should be the least amount of items to display in the search results list, you can also check several others. Realize that some types of namespaces are now unable to be searched no matter what.
    • The namespaces that should work include (Main), User, wikiHow, and Category. At times, Template will work, but not Template_talk.
    • The namespaces that can't be searched include the following: Discussion, User_talk, wikiHow_talk Image and Image_talk, Mediawiki and Mediawiki_talk, Category_talk, Help and Help_talk, Request and Request_talk, User kudos and User kudos_talk, Video and Video_talk, VideoComments and VideoComments_talk, and Module and Module_talk.

    Check the boxes to the left of the options you'd like to enable in your search, or click the "Search in all namespaces" to enable all (though some won't display in any search you do) at the same time.

    Save your work. Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the big list.

    Verify that the settings work. Try searching for a category and/or a user by their username that you know exists, to verify your settings have been set correctly work. Recognize that categories may exist a few items down below the first few (2-3 items on the search results page), but can be found with their namespace fairly quickly when searched with Category or User.
