Watermarks on photos and artwork are an unfortunate necessity in a day and age when with a simple copy-paste anyone can claim credit for your work. The least you can do is make it a good-looking watermark, and what better to use than your signature?

Steps

  1. Drawing your signature

    Draw your signature on a white paper with a dark marker. Make sure you use a light surface (preferably white) and a dark marker.

    Put your camera to "scene" or "text" mode, whichever is suitable for clearer pictures. Use a good camera with a great resolution, it will help you later.

    Take a picture of the signature using your camera and transfer it to your PC.

    Open your signature-picture in any version of Adobe Photoshop.

    Press Ctrl+L (windows) or just go to Image>Adjustment>Levels

    Increase the shadows so much that the ink of your signature becomes almost flaw-less and increase the highlights to a level so that the background becomes completely one color. At the end of this step you should have a major distinction between the background and the signature. This is why we kept it black and white.

    Click and hold the eraser button and select "Magic Eraser".

    Erase the background with just a click.
    • If you haven't done the levels correctly, this step will not work well. Go back and set the levels again.

    If you want to write anything with your signature, use the text option.

    Save it as a .PNG file and you'll be able to use it as you watermark later.

    Open your png file and copy it over your desired picture!
