Steam Guard is an extra layer of security that can be applied to your Steam online gaming account. When Steam Guard is enabled, any user who tries to log in to your Steam account from an unrecognized computer will be required to complete additional verification processes before they will be allowed to successfully log in. Follow the steps below to learn how to enable Steam Guard on your Steam account.

    Launch the Steam application on your computer.

    Click on the “Steam” button located at the top left corner of the Steam menu bar.

    Click on “Settings.” Steam will then display the account settings menu.
    • If you are using Steam on a Mac, click on “Preferences” instead of “Settings.”[1]

    Click on the “Account” tab.

    Click on “Verify Email Address.”

    Enter your email address details in the fields provided. Steam will then send an email containing a verification link to the email address you specified.

    Open the email message sent by Steam and click on the verification link provided. You will now be ready to enable Steam Guard through your Steam account settings menu.

    Close and reopen the Steam application on your computer.

    Click on “Steam” in the menu bar and select “Settings.”

    Click on the tab labeled “Account.”

    Verify that a green shield and the text “Protected by Steam Guard” is displayed next to the Security Status field. The Steam Guard feature is now protecting your Steam account.
    • If the Security Status indicates that Steam Guard is still not enabled, proceed with the remaining steps in this article.

    Place a checkmark next to “Keep my account protected by Steam Guard.”
