    Read the wikiHow Deletion Policy, and How to Understand What wikiHow Is Not. This will help you decide if any given article should be nominated for deletion or not.

    Select the grounds for deletion from the list below. Note that the reasons do not automatically qualify an article for deletion. They are simply things which might qualify an article for deletion. In addition they are the only acceptable grounds for nominating an article for deletion.
    • Please use one of the above and not arbitrary reasons like "Gross", "Inappropriate" or any other reason not specifically listed in the wikiHow Deletion Policy. Otherwise, it is possible that the NFD tag will be removed as invalid, or changed to reflect a valid reason for deletion.

    Place the NFD template at the very beginning of the introduction. Complete the two-part template in the following manner:
    • Type the NFD Template code: {{nfd|abc}} - replacing the abc with one of the 3-character codes from the list below.
    • Optionally, you may add a second or third reason. An example: {{nfd|jok|not}}
    • If placing an NFD tag for a duplicate article you need to indicate the duplicate article. This is best done by placing it in the NFD tag like this: {{nfd|dup|Clean Silver}}, where the words that go in the third field are the article title without the "How to" at the beginning.
    • Only place 3 character NFD codes in the NFD tag. Do not place comments in the NFD tag. Put your comments on the article's discussion page. (Exception: duplicate link as described above).
    • Note that you do not need to add an additional parameter for the date. This will be done automatically for you after you save the page.

    Hit the Preview button. Verify that the NFD tag displays. If you don't see a large notice under the introduction of the article, the template hasn't been written correctly.

There are two reasons for this. One is to give the author an understanding of why it is nominated and how to fix it, and save the article. The other reason is to let others, both Admins and non-Admins, check the page and form an opinion as to whether it should be deleted.

  • See if you can edit away the problems causing the reason for deletion before deciding to tag it.
  • Check the article's Discussion page in about five days to see what other users have also written on the articles talk page. Feel free to make any necessary rebuttals.
  • When adding multiple NFD reasons, try to place the reason that fits the closest to the content first before the other ones. This is because when the article appears in NFD Guardian, the first NFD reason will be shown. For example, if you are nominating a joke article that also looks incomplete for deletion, place {{nfd|jok|inc}}, making sure "jok" is before "inc".
  • When an Admin reviews the page, especially if it's been in the deletion list for longer than usual, and there is nothing in the Discussion page, the Admin may well make the decision to delete without consensus. The lesson here is this: If you don't care enough to add your thoughts in the Discussion page, you don't really care whether or not the article is deleted.

Warnings

  • Don't try to take matters in your own hands and blank out a page you want deleted. This will be recognized as vandalism. If the article is entirely inappropriate or out of hand, place a speedy deletion notice on the article instead.
  • Check the history of an article before nominating it for deletion. An article may have been vandalized and simply needs rolled back to the previous version.
  • Don't nominate an article for deletion frivolously. Write your reasons for supporting deletion on the article's talk page.
  • Do not nominate random articles for deletion. This is not funny and is annoying.
