Push notifications allow apps like Mail to alert you the moment new information comes in, such as an Email, rather than wait for you to check for updates. The same is true of social media apps like Facebook and Twitter.

    Tap the Settings icon on your device’s Home screen to launch the Settings app.

    Now tap Notifications.
    • In iOS 7, this bar is labelled "Notification Center".

    Select the app for which you would like to turn on push notifications and set all of the available switches to ON. You can also choose to allow Banners or Alerts from this app.

  • If your email account doesn’t support push you can set it to check for mail more frequently from the Fetch New Data screen.

  • Some apps aren’t compatible with Push notifications so will not show up in the Notifications screen and will not notify you when new messages appear or events occur.
