How to get out there and talk to the people in the local bands instead of sitting there gaping at them but not saying anything. Comes in handy when going to shows.

Look in the local news paper for up-coming shows. To meet bands, you need to go to their shows.

Make sure you get right up by the stage and participate when you go to their local performances: clap your hands, dance, disco, head bang, or play the air guitar. You just need to be active in the show.

    3
If they ask for volunteers, raise your hand, and try jumping a little, but don't bounce, or squeal "pick me, pick me, oh oh, pick me!" You just need to let them know you're excited, but not hyperactive.
  4. Make Friends with the Local Bands Step 4.jpg
    4
If they let you come up on the stage to help them, look excited about it, and have energy with whatever they have you do.

After the show, make sure to go over and tell them that they were really good, and that you're interested in their music. If you have a band that plays similar music, this would be the time to tell them, and ask if they have any pointers (this is good if the show is not too crowded)

Once you've talked to them for a while, it's very appropriate to ask for their MySpace/e-mail address. Most bands have a MySpace, so if you have one, this is appropriate. If not, e-mail is okay, but don't give them yours. Just make sure they know who you are so when your e-mail arrives, it's not a surprise.

When you get home, visit their MySpace, but don't send your friend request for a couple days, even a week or two. You don't want to seem like a stalker, just interested and friendly. It would be appropriate to e-mail them in about 5 days or so.
  8. Make Friends with the Local Bands Step 8.jpg
    8
Make sure to post friendly comments on their MySpace from time to time, or ask them where they're going to preform next.

Don't get hyperactive when you meet them. That will only cause a bit a trouble.

Tips
Provide Details.
Please be as detailed as possible in your explanation. Don't worry about formatting! We'll take care of it. For example:
Don't say: Eat more fats.
Do say: Add fats with some nutritional value to the foods you already eat. Try olive oil, butter, avocado, and mayonnaise.

EditTips

  • Whatever you do, do not get a pic with them the first time you meet the band. It is appropriate to get a pic with your "friend" the third of fourth show. Make sure to post this pic (along with others of you and other friends) on your MySpace.
  • Make sure they know your name, so that they'll know who the e-mail/ MySpace friends request is from.
  • If you're in a band, bring at least one of the members.
  • It's good to take a friend with you, so they can talk to them, too.
  • If they are selling CDs, it's okay to have them autograph it for you, but otherwise don't have them autograph anything. You want to be a friend, not just a fan.

EditWarnings

  • Whatever you do, don't come on too strong. Don't talk just to them. Make sure to interact with other bands and buy CDs, even if you don't get their MySpace, or communicate very much with them.
  • Never go by yourself.
