Know which Windows Operating System you are currently working on. Adding icons to the Start Menu on a Windows Vista PC will do just that-add shortcut icons to your Start Menu (thereby looking like programs you can launch directly from the Start menu. However, on a Windows 7 and above PC, it will add your icons to a "QuickLinks" like toolbar to the right of the Start Menu.

Access a web page that has a non-default Internet Explorer-like "e" icon. Some of the major websites on the net have preferable ones. (Facebook, wikiHow, Yelp, and Digg all have ones.)
    • It's preferable to use ones with different icons, but ones that don't work to, but aren't as beautiful as the non-default icon websites.

    • Open the "All programs" area of your Start menu.
    • Right click the text portion of the link you'd like to Edit
    • Click "Rename"

Tips
Provide Details.
Please be as detailed as possible in your explanation. Don't worry about formatting! We'll take care of it. For example:
Don't say: Eat more fats.
Do say: Add fats with some nutritional value to the foods you already eat. Try olive oil, butter, avocado, and mayonnaise.

EditTips

  • Realize that you can pin these items to your Start menu, just like you would have with other programs on the Start menu's programs list, by following the same rules.
  • Realize that if the icon to the link gets changed at any point, the icon that was initially created will also permanently change, so don't try changing the icon that is there unless you have saved the icon to another storage location.
  • Some links within the Internet get removed over time. If you fear that the link will get removed, make a backup copy as a Shortcut on another backup drive. Use this backup drive to test the site in question, when the link doesn't open to the necessary site one day.

EditThings You'll Need

  • Windows 7 or Windows Vista computer
  • Internet Explorer 9
  • computer mouse and keyboard
