StumbleThru is a guide to help you use StumbleUpon to find useful pages on one-branded site only. Although the sites aren't limited to such pages as Break.com, YouTube, Wikipedia, and several others, these are the most popular. Use this article to help guide you to pick what site you'd like to StumbleThru.

    1
Click the "Start Stumbling" button to login to the toolbar. Provide your login information to the dialog box that is displayed. Make sure the checkbox labeled "Sign-out when I close the browser" is not checked, as it will save you time later on, if you should ever want to submit other new links to their database with known URL's. For StumbleUpon, it's best to try and stay logged in all the time, so you can submit new sites that aren't in the StumbleUpon database just yet, on occasion.

Tips
Provide Details.
Please be as detailed as possible in your explanation. Don't worry about formatting! We'll take care of it. For example:
Don't say: Eat more fats.
Do say: Add fats with some nutritional value to the foods you already eat. Try olive oil, butter, avocado, and mayonnaise.

EditTips

  • StumbleUpon also has browser add-ons for Firefox, Safari (which is their newest add-on, and therefore will be updated very quickly with other features as they deem necessary), iPhone/iOS, and Google Chrome.
    • Some things may even be a bit re-formatted differently between browsers (such as StumbleThru) and (your Category lists will not look the same between these browsers). No topics will be lost in this process, but they may be relocated to be ungrouped (such as the difference in Google Chrome v. Internet Explorer).
    • As of current writing in May 2011, there is no StumbleUpon add-on toolbar for Opera.
  • To retrieve your list of favorited sites, click the "Favorites" button from your toolbar, or visit StumbleUpon.com from your browser, sign in and by about midway down the page, there should be tabs: click the "Favorites" tab.
  • Although the process is very similar to selecting the StumbleThru category in Mozilla, the graphics are just a little bit different. The toolbars look almost identical, once correctly installed.

EditWarnings

  • StumbleUpon is very, very, very addicting! Stumble at your own risk and within certain time boundaries!
    • By setting a kitchen timer nearby, you'll help to limit your time spent stumbling, which will therefore decrease the chance you'll become addicted to it (if you stick to this timer precisely).
  • You run a risk of finding a virus-laden page. Always keep updated (in realtime) virus-protection software running alongside of another firewall (more than just the Windows Firewall itself).
    • If you don't want to spend much for free virus protection, Microsoft has produced an antivirus software piece known as Microsoft Security Essentials. However, prior to stumbling, use the Full Scan option of the virus program. (This program can be used on a Windows XP (Service Pack 3+) computer, Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer.) You can find this software at http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials.
    • For malware, Malwarebytes produces a checker for malware. Be sure to run a Quick Scan (at the very least) on each of the user's accounts from which you'd like to Stumble from, weekly.
    • Once in a while, it's a good idea to free up space by clearing out Internet Cookies by using CCleaner which can be downloaded from the URL http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner.
