Rocky Road Cookies

Rocky Road is my favorite ice cream flavor. But when it comes to “the road”  you either love it, or hate it with a passion. Dave thinks it’s straight from the devil. He hates everything about it and silently judges me every time I order it as my scoop choice. I guess that means he… Read more »

Homemade Applesauce Donuts

Donuts. Is there anything they can’t do? A wise man,by the name of Homer Simpson, once voiced this feeling that I will bet we all have. I have to be honest about something-Rachel and I have been known to polish off a whole box by ourselves, all the while, arguing the side of  powdered over plain… Read more »

Glitter-Frosted Pumpkins

Pumpkin crafting! Here we go! Two weeks into my internship with Rachel, I decided to join in on the crafting fun! Feeling inspired by the My Chic Life plethora of DIY posts (compliments of Mandy), I set out for the pumpkin patch on a mission. I wanted to start small, so I did so with… Read more »

Spinach Artichoke Dip

Who doesn’t love some piping hot spinach artichoke dip and a big glass of wine on a crisp Friday evening??? I’ve meant to try my hand at this for a while, and really, I’m unsure why I doubted my dip making prowess. I mean, it’s full of melted cheese… it’s impossible to screw that up!… Read more »

Flavor Infused Vodka

Oh vodka, how do I love thee… let me count the ways. Vodka Tonic, Vodka Red Bull, Vodka Martini, Vodka and Crackers… wait, no, that’s cheese. Anyway, I really like vodka. Now imagine my delight when every bar west of the Mississippi started infusing their spirits with everything from basil to lychee. I wanted in… Read more »

What to REALLY Expect When You’re Expecting

Let’s go ahead and get the preliminaries out of the way… I love my kids. They are the greatest thing I’ve ever done with my life and they bring me joy every day. Motherhood is a beautiful, wonderful gift… except when it’s not. I know, some of you are gasping for breath. You can’t believe… Read more »

Paint It Black!

Halloween craft time!  As I’ve previously mentioned, Halloween is not my favorite holiday of the year, so consequently I don’t own much related decor.  That’s all changed after this week’s project, which doesn’t need a tutorial so much as a single instruction: “paint a whole mess of cheap crap black.” All you need is a… Read more »

Lentil Soup with Kale and Bacon

It’s autumn!! I’m excited, can you tell? Our weather all summer was upwards of 200 degrees and I’ve been patiently waiting for the air to turn crisp. Yesterday was 67, so I’m calling it! Time for soups and scarves and sweaters, oh my! My first soup of the season is Lentil with Kale and Bacon…… Read more »

I Was Framed!

One of the quickest ways to make your wall art, or framed photo collections feel polished and pulled together is to put everything in the same color frame. The photo above is of the stairway leading to my second floor and you can see that I’ve got all kinds of artwork in these frames: from… Read more »

Peanut Butter Cup Cake

Last weekend we were invited to a fabulous dinner party. When I say fabulous, I mean that our hosts (colleagues of Daves) take entertaining to a level that even Martha would be jealous of. I offered to bring a dessert… partially because I wanted to be polite and partially because I wanted to impress our… Read more »

About The Chic

Back in 2004 when I was looking to name my events company, I stumbled across the word 'Chic' in an old dictionary. The definition was: “a fashionable lifestyle, ideology, or pursuit”. I fell in love with the word and the idea that chic is the pursuit of something better, prettier, or cooler than you are today. Chic isn’t a state of being or even a destination, chic is the journey you take on the way to something greater. ~Rachel

Rachel's Latest Answer

Question: From RJ in Los Angeles Hi Rachel! We had a gathering last night where quite a few kids (mostly toddlers) showed up with their parents. My husband and I are childless, but love kids and aren’t afraid of messes/things breaking, etc. But, one of the mothers made a comment about “another friend of hers… Read more »
