EditSteps

  1. Question Someone Step 1.jpg
    1
Try not to sound intimidating. It is likely that if intimidated, they will not be willing to cooperate. Not only that, but it is wrong to use fear as a weapon to get what you want. In a way, you are lowering yourself to the level of the suspect, even if you are interrogating them for a good purpose.

  2. Question Someone Step 2.jpg
    2
Appear friendly, as this is what makes people want to talk. Ask simple questions at first, asking what they know about something or someone. If that person refuses to answer, or you think that they are lying, you should move on to the next step.
  3. Question Someone Step 3.jpg
    3
Give them the feeling of importance. Allow them to realize that much rests upon what they know. When a person feels as though their information will help people, they will likely be a lot more willing to share it.
  4. Question Someone Step 4.jpg
    4
If they still refuse you, let them go for a while. Later on, come back and question them. Sometimes, a person needs time to think. It is possible, that later on they may return to you to tell you, or, if you go back later, that they may talk. However, it may not always work like this, depending on the situation.
  5. Question Someone Step 5.jpg
    5
If everything fails, do not give up. If your suspect is not at all willing to cooperate then it is likely that he or she may be involved in the crime/incident themselves.
  6. Question Someone Step 6.jpg
    6
Keep a close eye on them. If they continue to do some more questionable acts, then you could either report or arrest them (if you have the authorization to) or, you could interrogate them again, telling them what you saw, asking them what was their motive behind it. If they still refuse to talk, then chances are, that they are involved in the crime.

Tips
Provide Details.
Please be as detailed as possible in your explanation. Don't worry about formatting! We'll take care of it. For example:
Don't say: Eat more fats.
Do say: Add fats with some nutritional value to the foods you already eat. Try olive oil, butter, avocado, and mayonnaise.

EditTips

  • Some suspects may seem to be co-operating, but are actually deceiving you. If you plan to be in the law enforcement business, then it is crucial to learn how to detect lies.
  • Look for witnesses. It is always a great idea to do this, as witnesses will usually tell the truth. Be extra careful when interrogating witnesses, however. You especially do not want them to be intimidated, or not only will they not want to answer more of your questions, they may tell others about your interrogation methods, which could end up as a problem against your career.

EditWarnings

  • For the above step mentioned, it is actually best, and recommended for law enforcement officers, to learn a martial art. This will come handy without a doubt, when you are trying to catch a criminal and/or suspect.
  • Be careful with some suspects. Sometimes, even when pulled for interrogation, they may secretly be carrying a weapon. You should learn how to defend yourself against unarmed, and armed attackers. You never know when it may come handy.
