Steps
-
1Think through the options available. Do you want to join the army, the navy or the air force? Do you want to belong to specialized operations that undertake specific tasks?
-
2Visit your local recruitment center for information. Alternately, look at the websites online for details that you can read through at your leisure.
-
3Think about your own aptitude. Belonging to the armed forces is an intense devotion of your time and skills. You will be expected to live on barracks, to move around the country and eventually overseas, you will be expected to be physically and mentally fit, you will go for long periods of time without seeing family and off site friends, and you will be extremely regimented from the time of waking up to the state of your clothing. It is very important to address all of these potential challenges and feel resolved about them before you even apply.
-
4Talk to a recruitment agent. Have a list of questions ready to ask about your reading. Attend open days or talks that the forces might be holding. Some armed forces even open their bases to public inspection and this might be worth visiting.
