How to Build an Airsoft Tank
Sometimes, ground infantry is not enough in Airsoft. This article will tell you how to build a tank to get the extra firepower and protection you need.

1Choose the material. Make it out of cardboard, or if your playing with high powered guns, very thin wood.Ad -
2Take the material and make two 8 foot (2.4 m) trapezoids, about 5 feet (1.5 m) tall. -
3Make a smaller trapezoid, 5 feet (1.5 m) by 5 feet (1.5 m), to go on the back of the tank. Get a piece of plywood for the base. -
4Make a frame inside the tank. Use pieces of wood for it. Not too much though, just enough to hold it together. -
5Put a 3 feet (0.9 m) piece of material on the top back of the tank, then a 1 or 2 foot (0.3 or 0.6 m) piece in front. Now make a turret. It can be any shape or size, but slanted material works best. Put a revolving rig to make the turret move. The rig is circular, so fill in the edges around it since the space for the turret is square. -
6To make the rig, get a circular piece of metal with raised edges big enough for your turret. Your turret should be 3 or 4 feet (0.9 or 1.2 m) wide. -
7Next, take wheels big enough to fit in the circle rig and attach them to the tank turret. Get a stand for the rig, and nail them to the rig, then the chassis where the square is. You may want to use tennis balls that can move with ease in the rig if wheels are too difficult as they are. -
8Find a sort of cover to go on the rig. Once the wheels are placed, make it so there is a gap for the stands that attach to your tank to rotate through. -
9For the wheels, use 2 off-brand motors. Put them in the back of the tank on both sides. Make holes in the floor of the tank for the chain to go through. Take 6 pairs of wheels and attach them together, but be sure to put gears on where your holes are.- Only put gears on two of the tires, then attach two holders to it. Put the wheels without gears on the bottom front of the vehicle and the others about 3 feet (0.9 m) apart, starting with one pair on the back 3 feet (0.9 m) and run chains to the middle pair of tires on the gears. Put four gears on this one. Two at the end for the first pair of chains, and another pair three inches from it. Attach the chains from motor to the first gears then the gears closer together should attach to the gears on the other tire across from it. You can also do the opposite and put the motor chains on the other wheels, but flip the rig around so that the motors are in the front open side of the tank to give more control to the driver.

10Put some strong suspensions or strong springs on the tank, then put a steering system onto the front wheels or a rudder system if the motors are in front. Be creative. -
11For weapons, either buy a thin metal tube or a cardboard one. Put it in the turret and make it as long as you want. Get some Airsoft grenades and either make your own launcher or buy one. Any launcher will work, even the revolving one, but it has to be the most high powered shell to launch the BBs as far as possible. Make a window to see out of so you can aim. -
12Take a Nerf football with fins and cut a section in the the shaft the same size as a large power fire cracker. Cut at the top of the shaft. -
13Glue the fins to the fire cracker. Cut a hole in the head of the football all the way through. The hole should only be big enough for the fuse of the firecracker. If the fuse is too short, add more so that a little bit is sticking out the head. Glue or tape BBs to the fire cracker. -
14Take a machine gun and mount it next to you, sticking out of the turret. If possible, get a good M-60 with adjustable speed. -
15Add a rotating chair. The tall kind you find at the bar in diners.- If your air cannon is very long, put the bottom end of the cannon on another turret rig so it rotates with the chairs.

16At the front of the tank, nail down plywood that has a Plexiglas window in it. -
17Take some hinges and put them on the back of the tank with no windows.Ad

- Experiment with armor too, but remember, it needs to be permeable to be fair.
- Add more guns if you want.
- Experiment with the barrel and Nerf football with fire cracker.
- This is an expensive project. To save money, use bikes instead of engines.
