Google Fiber for Communities.
Back in 2010, Google asked interested communities to fill a survey and an application to determine where to build the new Google Fiber network. Google Fiber is a service of Google providing ultra high-speed broadband Internet and television – over 1 Gigabit per second – to a small but increasing number of locations in the USA. Google fiber has been introduced in Kansas City, Austin, and Provo. In February 2014, Google announced they chose another 34 cities as candidates for the next network development.

We still ignore the real Google Fiber objective. Some argue Google is about to operate as an Internet Service Provider in key locations, others think Google is just trying to get cable operators into improving their service. Why ? So that Google searches can be done faster by Google users. This analysis was first released by Time Magazine and Google never commented it.
Google Fiber is projected to deliver Internet broadband and Television to 8 million American homes by 2022.
Why do we write about Google Fiber for Communities ?
Simply because Google Fiber and Yadwire share a common goal: we help make communities smarter in order to create smart cities. Google Fiber is 100 times faster than the average Fiber access most Americans have. Thus, Google Fiber is a key asset for communities which try to be well connected in order to deliver the best public services possible to its enterprises and citizens. Have a look at the smartest cities ranking, they all have very fast fiber accesses.
Please let us know if you find information about the 2010 Google Fiber survey. We are interested in knowing what kind of questions Google asked the municipalities.
