an Active Directory Client Extension for use with the Microsoft Windows 2000
Active Directory service. In addition, Microsoft Windows Me does not support
the Active Directory Client Extensions for Microsoft Windows 98. More information Microsoft has developed extensions for the Microsoft
Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 operating systems that allow those
client platforms to take advantage of features provided by the Windows 2000
Active Directory service. These client extensions were developed for customers
who wish to deploy Windows 2000 Server in environments with existing Windows
98- and Windows NT 4.0-based client workstations. Windows Me contains features
designed specifically for home users, and is not intended for deployment in
environments containing Windows 2000 Server. The Windows 2000 Professional
operating system is designed for business users, and contains more advanced
client features related to the Active Directory service. Although Windows Me does not support the Windows 98 Directory Services Client product, nor does it include the more advanced features available in Windows 2000 Professional, you may be able to install Active Directory Client Extension on a Windows Me computer for testing purposes. Microsoft provides this workaround for advanced users who regularly test unsupported software configurations. If you are not certain that this accurately describes you, Microsoft recommends that you do not download or install the Windows 98 Active Directory Client Extension package on Windows Me. If you choose to install the Windows 98 Active Directory Client Extension package on Windows Me, Microsoft recommends that you install it in a test environment, and not on a primary computer or operating system. Note: The Windows 98 Active Directory Client Extension package is included on the Windows 2000 CD-ROM in the Clients\Win9x\Dsclient.exe file. You must install this package to test this functionality in Windows Me.
