High school is a vicious place, with all sorts of rumor-spreading and people who are just plain mean. Most people aren't usually jerks, however, and it's very easy to avoid making enemies and stay generally well-liked.

Don't let your image control your personality. No one wants to be pushed into a stereotype, so be yourself no matter how you dress. American Eagle/Hollister/Aeropostale kids aren't always stuck-up, and Hot Topic kids aren't always depression-ridden teens. Avoid being a jerk, pure and simple. It's funny making fun of your friends, but don't take it too far or you could lose them. Don't judge people, while everyone has their bad sides, there's something cool about everyone. And if someone is a jerk to you, there's no need to be a jerk back, just shrug it off, you have awesome friends who know you're also awesome.

Have a positive outlook. High school can be a stressful time with lots of drama, but if you have the correct attitude, you can breeze through it, and possibly make a few good friends along the way.

There's nothing wrong with being a social butterfly. Meet people! Be friendly and they'll be friendly back.

Act your age. Be calm and cool, don't be weird! Maturity is a key part; people might dislike you if you're constantly acting like a ten-year-old. While maturity is good to have, don't overdo it and pretend to be more mature than you genuinely are.

Try to stay in a good mood. A break-up or other sad things are sure to get you down, but most people don't enjoy comforting someone over constant drama and problems. It's easier than you'd think to have a good time with your friends when you're feeling down.

Don't get into other people's business. If you're constantly gossiping about others, people are bound to hear. You really ought to have better things to do with your time then hang onto the lives of others anyways.

Do say: Add fats with some nutritional value to the foods you already eat. Try olive oil, butter, avocado, and mayonnaise.

EditTips

  • Talk to people! Don't always stick to that one spot where your group of friends usually is, try to fit in with other groups too, at least a little bit.

EditWarnings

  • Some people are just jerks, that can't be changed. There's no reason to be unfriendly to them, but it's probably best to not hang around them if they don't like you and it's not changing.
