MICHI's Sassy Fashion Studio
Workspace Tour
Name: MICHI Atelier
Location: Liberty Village, Toronto
Size: 825 square feet
Years occupied: 1 year
Cutting-edge fashion designer Michelle Watson’s MICHI athletic wear is probably the most fashionable fitness apparel you’ve ever laid eyes on. Her provocative cut-out leggings & bra tops are about as far from a typical omega-stamped yoga pant as a girl can get (think bad-ass urban warrior meets Vogue-era Madonna), and have been picked up by Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Holt Renfrew, ShopBop, and Revolve Clothing. A graduate of the prestigious Parsons School of Design, Michelle cut her teeth working for Donna Karan, Kate Spade & Ralph Lauren’s athletic line, RLX Ralph Lauren before launching her MICHI brand in the city that never sleeps. Originally hailing from Canada, Michelle decided to return north of the border, and now runs her business from this converted warehouse studio in Toronto’s Liberty Village.

Neon. Glamorous. High tech. These three things don't often find themselves in the same sentence together. Ok, maybe neon and tech. But glamorous? Yeah, that's a rare combination, but a welcome one. San Francisco based Lithium embraces this style with verve.

Workspace Tour
Name: Micha Thomas and Jaime Lawson of The Made In America Project

Merging their backgrounds in public relations and the fashion industry, Micha and Jaime have created The Made In America Project, which offers a badge of certification to 100% American-made products. Their interest in supporting our domestic independent brands was just the beginning, as they also offer select e-commerce, community events, and creative services. In addition to being impressed with their community-minded thinking, I was in awe of their grass roots workspace, which is actually a converted sunroom in Micha's Laurel Canyon home.

This 3-level loft was originally built by Rob Brill, the drummer for Berlin. When Brock was looking for a space to open his brokerage, he came across the loft for sale and immediately made an offer. Bitium's Soft Industrial Office
Workspace Tour
Name: Bitium offices, designed by Kate Strickland of West Haddon Hall
Location: Main Street in Santa Monica, California
Size: 3,500 Ssquare feet, 2 floors
Years worked in: 1 year
When Kate Strickland completed this office design project, she asked me to photograph it for her portfolio. However, I immediately felt its incredible design deserved to be showcased in a workspace tour. Kate has completely brought together the industrial warmth of a residential loft with the community feel of an office space. Bitium's employees enjoy multiple work stations, meeting rooms and lounges, and of course fresh ocean air from the coast, just blocks away.
