E3: EA Partners to publish id's RAGE

Quake dev swaps Activision for EA

EA's Monday E3 press conference revealed that the company would publish id Software's upcoming title RAGE though the EA Partners program.

The deal was unveiled via an appearance by John Carmack at the conference, as well as a brief video package.

While few details about the post-apocalyptic title were forthcoming at the conference, a press release issued by EA following the event stated that the game would be described in more detail at Quakecon. Quakecon is scheduled for July 31 to August 2.

id Software has historically had a publishing relationship with Activision, with the most recent titles in the Quake and Doom franchises being distributed by that publisher. Some recent mobile and handheld titles, including the Nintendo DS version of John Carmack's mobile game Orcs & Elves, have been published by EA however.

id CEO Todd Hollenshead said of the partnership, "RAGE represents a new direction for our games. RAGE is a shooter unlike any other, developed on our cutting edge new technology, and built to the exacting standards id is famous for. We're excited to have the support of EA Partners to launch RAGE on the world."

Senior VP and GM of EA Partners David DeMartini added, "The RAGE publishing deal is the epitome of EA Partners' mission: Provide the world's best developers with access to the world's best publishing resources."
