How to Set Up Open Directory in OS X Mavericks Server App 3.X
So you are looking to enable the ability to centrally manage users with in your home network and have installed the Server App 3.X. Congratulations on this step forward, as it will be must easier to manage multiple users and take less time out of your life. Steps

1Open the Server App.Ad

2Click on Open Directory in the left pane.

3Click the switch in the upper right hand corner to turn on Open Directory.

4Choose the option that suits your needs and click Next when finished.

5Enter a password for the Directory Admin and verify the password. Click Next when finished.

6Enter an Organization Name and Admin email address. Click next when finished.

7Review information and click Set Up when finished.

8Wait while Open Directory Database is created.

9When finished you will be brought back to the window you started on with one difference. You will see the database that was created in a list.

10Congratulations! You have successfully set up Open Directory and are now ready to start managing users and groups.Ad

Tips
- If users are unable to log in, check the time on the server. If there is more than a 5 minute difference users will not be able to log in.
- Make a backup anytime changes are made with either an external drive or Time Machine.
Warnings
- Sudden power loss or forced restarts can corrupt the OpenDirectory database. Be sure to create a backup once you are finished building it.
