Last time I took a visit to Annette and Gustavo's 100 year old craftsman home in Beachwood Canyon, we were greeted by gorgeous landscaping and one of the coziest family homes I've ever seen. Annette is the co-owner of lovely garden shop POTTED in Los Feliz, and her green thumb is all over the family's recent garage remodel. They gutted the entire 420 square feet and added a fully working kitchen and bathroom, a laundry room, and access to the backyard, complete with a pool. Perfect for any guest or renter! Welcome!

No doubt you were thoroughly persuaded in our last post that holding a garage sale —a successful, lucrative one — is well worth your time this summer. But before we get to the part where you start combing your home for what to sell, you ought to take some time this weekend to pinpoint the best time to hold it — and decide where you'll be selling your items.

It's OK to have an ugly laundry room. It's a room that's better dressed for utility than for elegance and it takes a lot of time and money to turn an unfinished laundry room into the sort of glamorous "mud room" we all pin from Pottery Barn on Pinterest. In real life, it might have bare concrete floors, exposed pipes and insulation, and a massive rusting water heater commanding attention in the corner. In the meantime, here's an easy fix for an unfinished laundry room, using just paint and fabric.
