Seven “Managers” From Heaven by Mufid Sukkar
I recently wrote about “Nine Managers from Hell” so, it is only fair to set the record straight and speak of managers who showed me how to be a better manager. By the way, I am not talking about leaders and leadership, that’s something altogether different. From personal experience, the most impressive leaders I have come across were actually terrible managers. Let’s face it, to find an inspirational leader who also happens to be a great manager would be rare indeed. So, back to my seven great managers, here they are : The Oracle : He is the one who seems to have a wealth of knowledge and experience ; no matter what information or data you are missing, he has a knack for knowing the facts and placing them in front of you, thus throwing light in to darkened areas of your work. All of (...)more... |

What to believe and what not to believe
Considerable progress has been made in technology. Look at mobile telephones and the Internet. Today, many people enjoy a standard of living much higher than that of their parents. So what is really happening ? Are the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, as one recent analysis suggested ? Will the middle class disappear, as many social scientists predict, and if so what will replace it ? How will posterity look upon our society ? What kind of world will we leave for our children ? How many times have we seen the label “approved by scientists”, “approved by the medical association” on a product ? What could be more certain than resorting to the integrity of a professional organization ? Marketing at its best ? But, despite all this, has the world really become a better place (...)more... |

"DYSLEXIQUE…VRAIMENT ?

Non, c’est (...)more... |

Europe in the sixteenth century was a continent in turmoil. Religious wars divided communities ; the exploitation of the New World turned the economy on its head ; jealous states fought over scarce resources. Despite its geographically peripheral position, Ireland was at the heart of this upheaval. Under Elizabeth I (r.1558-1603) aggressive state centralisation, enforced religious conformity and stiffening economic competition caused bitter discontent in Ireland and forced many thousands of men and women to seek exile on the continent. They consisted largely of kin and family groupings (...)
